WATCH: Retired Carlton, Adelaide star Eddie Betts takes a hanger in local footy league

WATCH: Eddie Betts has still got it – and here’s the vision to prove it. But his spectacular hanger wasn’t even the best part of the retired 35-year-old’s local footy cameo.

Eddie Betts has still got it, and his magic taught a young Cat a lesson.

Famous for winning four Goal of the Year gongs, the 35-year-old hauled in a spectacular hanger in a cameo for Murray Football League Rumbalara in northern Victoria.

Recounting the moment on Fox Footy’s Best On Ground, Betts revealed that he went for the leap after spotting a camera in the crowd.

But arguably the best part was his priceless response to Geelong goalsneak Tyson Stengle, who Betts has worked with in his role as a development coach.

Stengle had told Betts in the lead-up that he wasn’t cut out for standing on heads anymore, but, as he generally does, the magician had the last laugh.

“Someone was filming and then I said, ‘I’ll go for a hanger, I’ll see what I can do’. Someone was having a shot from about 40m out so I thought it may drop short,” Betts explained.

“Before that Tyson Stengle actually said to me, because he comes to our home a lot, ‘you’re too old to go jumping around’.

“I said ‘I’ll try take one Tys’.

“And once I took that one I sent it straight to him and said, ‘that’s for you buddy’.

“I said, ‘that one was for you mate.’

“We lost the game, I kicked 2 goals 6 (behinds). I’m trying teach Geelong how to kick goals so I’ve got to teach myself before I teach Geelong.”

Despite 35-year-old’s best efforts for Rumbalara, he was not able to end the Shepparton-based team’s losing streak.

Betts, who retired from the game last year after a 350-game career at Carlton and Adelaide, was called in to lift the Aboriginal-led team’s spirits during the week.

However, their score of 50 was not enough to stop the Deniliquin Rams winning with 121 points.

Murray Football Netball League general manager Dale Norman said he was thrilled to have Betts “take the time out of his day to play”.

“I give big credit to Rumbalara coach Dwayne Atkinson on bringing Betts on-board,” Mr Norman said.

“The crowd is streaming through and they seem thrilled.

“It would have been good to have a stand-alone game so the surrounding areas could embrace it, but either way, everyone is smiling. Betts is king of the kids.”

Rumbalara coach Dwayne Atkinson said it was a thrill to involve Betts in the game and get a photo for the team to treasure, especially after their recent losing streak.

Rumbalara announced the inclusion of Betts on social media last week after the league gave clearance for him to play.
