GRAND Final week is a time for reunions and catch-ups in the football world.
But sometimes they can end in tears — well almost — if the wrong people cross paths which is what happened at The Footy Show after-party.
A number of the Brisbane players have a yearly reunion during Grand Final week where they come together to relive the good old days from their three flags.
After a decent session the Lions boys arrived at the Precinct Hotel where Channel Nine were holding its end-of-season party last Thursday night.
Justin Leppitsch was leading the charge and he made a beeline for Footy Show reporter Damian Barrett.
The pair exchanged words with the recently sacked Brisbane coach apparently less than pleased with how Barrett had reported the goings-on at the Lions this season.
To the shock of onlookers, former Lions ruckman Jamie Charman had to physically restrain Leppitsch with captain Michael Voss also required to act as a peacemaker.
IT was the moment of the Grand Final and understandably everyone got caught up in the emotion of Tom Boyd’s 60m goal in the final quarter — even one of the game’s best commentators.
Brian Taylor was at his best as he described Boyd pouncing onto the ball after Dale Morris had brought down Lance Franklin in the middle of the ground.
The goal effectively won the Dogs the premiership and that’s when it got too much for BT in the Triple M box as he let slip the f-bomb.
To be fair to him it perfectly summed up the feeling of everyone at the MCG.
“From inside the centre square Boyd has kicked a goal,” Taylor said during what was a brilliant piece of emotion-charged commentary.
“Boyd has kicked a goal from inside the centre square ... F.ck!”
Co-commentator Luke Darcy lost it immediately saying: “He’s dropped the magic word.”
James Brayshaw quickly tried to cover it up but in the end they all agreed it was just another memorable moment in one of the most memorable grand finals for a long time.
IT hasn’t taken the Harvey clan long to move on.
The children of games record holder Brent Harvey have already dumped North Melbourne in favour of the reigning premiers.
“My 12-year-old (Cooper) and four-year-old (Hudson) have totally jumped on the bandwagon,” Harvey’s wife Shayne told EON Sports Radio yesterday.
“Cooper totally has jumped ship. He’s asked for a membership for the Bulldogs.
“When Brent got sacked, he said ‘Mum, can you go and get me a new jumper? I want a Bulldogs jumper’.”
The family will be departing for a month-long trip to the US next week with the odds of Harvey playing elsewhere looking less and less by the day.
