Given Patrick is ineligible to claim this year’s Brownlow Medal, his future brother-in-law has stepped up to keep the tradition going.
Jordan Keras, who is marrying Patrick’s younger sister Bethany next year, has taken out the NEAFL MVP award in Queensland after a stunning season with Southport.
The former Geelong Falcon midfielder averaged 35 possessions and polled nine votes in the final round to snatch the victory from NT Thunder’s Cameron Ilett.
Karas, who polled in 16 of his 18 games to finish on 78 votes, admitted afterwards he’d wait for the right moment to rib the Geelong superstar.
“I’ll probably get into him a little bit depending on how he’s feeling,” Karas joked.
“He has had a lot more accolades than I have so I will take this one.”
Keras, who has been studying to be a physiotherapist at Bond University, said the 2016 Brownlow Medallist “might have a role” in the January wedding.
