GEELONG superstar Patrick Dangerfield has declared the Cats are “all in” as they prepare for tomorrow’s Grand Final showdown against Richmond in Queensland.

“We haven’t come this far just to f--- it up it up now,” Dangerfield said.

“We are all in.”

Dangerfield’s comments are not a brag or a joke or an expression of over confidence; they simply express the steely focus, determination and drive of the one of the AFL’s leading players and his team that has its eye on footy’s greatest prize in what is a historic year.

Dangerfield said the Queensland hub experience, necessary to ensure the AFL competition could continue during the COVID-19 pandemic, had brought the Geelong team closer together.

“It has been really rewarding all coming together, with 100-odd of us all living under the same roof and socialising together,” he said.

“You never actually ever really escape each other, but there has been that real sense of ‘we are all in it together’, ‘we are all striving for the same thing,’ whether you are a player, a staff member, a coach, any and everyone who is involved.

“It has certainly brought us closer together. I think this is something interstate teams experience. They travel every second week and get to know each other that way whereas for most Victorian-based clubs the majority of teams are 60-odd per cent Victorian players so you have a lot of people outside of footy you still connect with, whereas this opportunity for us has been just to spend time with each other.

“It has been great to get to know people, players and staff on a different level, a more personal level. We know each other extremely well now after three months.”

Dangerfield, an Swisse Wellness ambassador, said looking after your health and mental health was of paramount importance during the COVID-19 lockdown.

He encouraged men in particular to look out for their mates who might need help.

“Swisse has partnered with mental health charity One in Five and I would encourage everyone just to check in on their mates because such a little gesture can really mean a lot,” he said.
