Max Gawn says Tom McDonald and Angus Brayshaw got premiership tattoos on their butt cheek

A group of Melbourne players went out to get premierships tattoos on the Monday morning after the grand final. And two got them below the belt.

Melbourne skipper Max Gawn admits he was confused by the presence of alleged WA border breacher and Demons fan Hayden Burbank before and after last month’s AFL grand final.

Burbank, 49, is the owner of Morris Jones in Prahran, which has been a popular night spot for Demons players for many years.

He and financial planner Mark Babbage, 39, remain locked in a Perth jail until a court appearance on October 13.

Burbank and Babbage, each face three charges of providing false information to border authorities.

Gawn said the Demons players were surprised to see the Chapel St restaurant and cocktail bar owner in Perth.

“We saw him at the captain’s run the day before in the crowd and we were like ‘that doesn’t make sense’ and then the next time I saw him he was in the change rooms giving me a hug holding the cup,” Gawn said on the Herald Sun’s Browny’s Podcast.

“It didn’t really make sense to me how he was there, I just presumed he’d done the two weeks quarantine.”

The Demons premiership skipper said the Melbourne supporter clearly needed to keep a lower profile.

“If I was jumping borders, I’d be sitting one out, one back,” Gawn said.

“I wouldn’t be going to the change rooms, I wouldn’t be going to the after-party.

“The emotions got the better of him.”

Gawn is now back in Melbourne and revealed he spent his first two days at home with the premiership cup.

Although, he was told not to put any photos or videos of the cup on his social media accounts in the fear of tipping off potential thieves.

“I had the cup for the first two days post the plane trip because literally I was the only one on the plane, everyone else was still in Perth,” Gawn said.

“I took the cup back home but they said ‘don’t post any photos while you’re there because you might get robbed.’

“So I said ‘when can I post a photo?’ (and they replied) ‘when you give us back the trophy.’

“So they don’t care if my house gets robbed, just as long as the trophy’s not there.”

Gawn said he was one of 12 players that went off on the Monday morning after the grand final to ink up with a premiership tattoo.

“We got about 12 of us on that day because we got a good rate on that day, so the guys that wanted to get a good rate got in nice and early,” he said.

“But it was early Monday morning so you can imagine your Hibberds (Michael Hibberd) and your Harmes (James Harmes) types weren’t there, but there were 12 of us there.

“I think Angus Brayshaw and Tom McDonald got it done on the butt cheek.”

The Demons big man also joked he was still smarting about being denied a grand final goal after his set shot in the first term was controversially deemed a point by the goal umpire.

“It was a goal, I clearly saw that it was a goal,” Gawn said.

“I honestly couldn’t believe it.

“I was asking the umps to review it and they didn’t want a bar of it.”
