Every AFL club’s membership rewards for the 2021 premiership season revealed

The loyalty of footy fans was tested like never before in a COVID-ravaged AFL season. Here’s how clubs are saying thanks to their members this year.

The loyalty of AFL club members was tested like never before in 2020.

In a COVID-19 ravaged season, the weekend pastime of going to the football was taken from many fans as the game shifted into hubs interstate.

Despite being starved of football, the majority of supporters chose to pledge their memberships to their clubs in a financially challenging season.

Now clubs are looking for ways to thank their members and encourage them to get back on board in 2021.

Price freezes or discounts, package upgrades and special member events are among the rewards on offer.

ADELAIDE

— The Crows have frozen the price on membership for the next two years.

— Bespoke member pack recognising their 2020 pledge.

— Bonus member pack items such as extra merchandise.

— Prize giveaways include a Toyota vehicle.

— Exclusive football department inner sanctum events.

BRISBANE

— In May this year, all members were given three options for their membership due to the COVID-hit season – to pledge, pause or cancel.

— Those who pledged their membership to the club maintained their game access rights and years of membership in 2020 (once crowds came back) and also provided a 20 per cent discount on their membership and complimentary guest tickets in 2021 to say thank you.

— The pause option allowed members to keep their reserved seating on hold in 2020 ready for the 2021 season. These members also carried across a credit in 2021 and were offered a 10 per cent membership discount.

— In addition to these discounts, the Lions are also working on other “surprises” for their members to say thank you for staying loyal.

CARLTON

— All members who pledged their 2020 membership to the club in 2020 have had their membership price frozen for next season.

— Pledged members with match access will also receive an additional membership in 2021, which can be given to a family member who wasn’t a member in 2020.

— These members will also have their names showcased on the club’s banner at Carlton’s first home game in 2021.

— Reserved seat members will also have their name immortalised on an honour wall at Ikon Park as part of the club’s facility redevelopment.

— And pledged members will be invited to a special member appreciation event once the club is able to come together again.

COLLINGWOOD

— All membership prices and packages remain the same for 2021.

— The Magpies have made changes to the quality of their membership packs and how members will receive them.

— The Magpies said their packs would be more personalised and environmentally friendly in 2021.

ESSENDON

— There is a price freeze on all memberships at the Bombers.

— The club is offering free upgrades for home reserved seat members.

— Every member who renews before the end of the year will receive a $30 coupon to spend at the Bomber Chop.

— A $175 Coles gift card valued at up to $175 for every family membership purchased before the start of the 2021 home-and-away season.

FREMANTLE

— Price freeze across all memberships in 2021.

— Change in membership packs so members can choose the merchandise item they prefer.

— Two new membership products – one in the local market and one targeted to Melbourne fans. The Pavilion is a new area of seating at Optus Stadium and this package includes seating to this area, a Grand Final guarantee and VIP parking. Melbourne Gold will give fans in Melbourne the chance to access 11 AFL matches played at Marvel Stadium or the MCG during the 2021 AFL home-and-away season.

— More flexibility for adult members with choice over merchandise products.

— The Cats cheapest adult AFL membership will include week one-three finals priority access and entry into the draw to win a new Ford vehicle.

GOLD COAST

— Price freeze for all renewing members.

— There is a range of benefits for members who maintained their memberships in 2020 to suit their needs.

— There will also be flexible seating plans to allow for COVID-safe venue protocols.

GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY

— GWS has frozen all 2020 prices for 2021. All returning and new members have access to this price until December 31.

— Members Choice. Most members will have the opportunity to choose between receiving a physical members pack or a $15 merchandise voucher that can be used in-store or online with no minimum spend.

— Members who actively pledged 100 per cent of their membership in 2020 will receive an additional pledge patch in their membership pack which the club can apply to any merchandise item.

— Monthly online members connect forum for members to join. Each month we will have two guests speakers that members can ask questions to direct.

— Special birthday merchandise discounts for members in 2021.

— Members will be at the forefront of the Giants’ 10-year birthday celebrations in 2021. There will be an opportunity for members to feature in the club’s television commercial and to share their big moments on a 10-year timeline website that is being built.

HAWTHORN

— Hawthorn has committed to freezing its membership prices and all members will also receive a merchandise voucher as part of their membership to put towards an item of their choice.

— Hawthorn members have been given a booster in their 2021 membership package upon renewing for 2021.

— Boosters varied according to the membership type held during the 2020 season and ranged from package upgrades to merchandise gift packs, memberships for friends and tickets to exclusive member events.

— Complimentary general admission tickets offered to 2021 renewing members as compensation.

— Membership packages with included hospitality offered complimentary function

— Reserved seat renewal period extended as to ensure no member loses a seat.

NORTH MELBOURNE

— Price freeze on all memberships.

— Members receive a free upgrade to the next membership category.

PORT ADELAIDE

— Price freeze on 2021 memberships for all 2020 members.

— A delayed start to the auto-renewal date by one month to factor in the delayed season (normally October, changed to November).

— There is no renewal cut-off date if members want to wait for the fixture or are unsure of the ongoing impact of COVID next season.

— If there is an interruption to the 2021 season, Port will provide all affected members with a range of options to address any material reduction in the benefits of their membership.

RICHMOND

— The Tigers have introduced a pay-as-you-attend model for reserved seat and reserved bay members. Eligible members will have the option of paying a base membership fee upon renewal and then paying a discounted ticketing fee for each game they choose to attend. The value of the base membership and ticketing fee is dependent on their membership product and level of seating.

— Price freeze, or in some cases price reduction, across membership products for season 2021.

— Greater choice on member choice items.

— Richmond has communicated to its members the prospect of member-only games in 2021 if there are still restrictions on crowd numbers at games.

ST KILDA

— The Saints are committed to ensuring its loyal members have an elevated experience in 2021.

— St Kilda will offer its returning members a free upgrade or reward for this upcoming season.

— Upgrades and rewards will be based on the category held in 2020, but members can expect to receive either access to more games, a better vantage point at Marvel Stadium, a better matchday experience, events and offers for no additional cost.

SYDNEY

— Sydney has introduced flexi products in both New South Wales and Victoria, enabling members to retain a reserved seat while paying only for matches they attend.

— The Swans offered a loyalty discount to its match-access Bloods 2020 members, who stood by the club this season.

— Sydney will introduce a multi-year membership product by invitation only to our Bloods 2020 members.

WEST COAST

— Everything for WA-based members is the same as for 2020 with no price changes.

— Prices and packages for non-WA (Victoria and other states) are yet to be determined and won’t be until after the release of the fixture. But if there is a “normal” season, there will be no changes to those memberships either.

—If there are different challenges outside of WA, the club said it would revisit the options it had available for interstate members.

WESTERN BULLDOGS

— Members who pledged their support to the club in 2020 will be eligible to receive a free membership upgrade.

— The Bulldogs have announced a revamped membership model for 2021 with three tiers of membership – gold, silver and bronze – all available in three-six and nine-game options.

— Members will pay a reduced upfront cost and then pay a small fee per game to guarantee a reserved seat on their respective level at Marvel Stadium home games, which the club says represents “better value” for membership costs.

— The new membership model is perfectly set up for COVID-19 policies such as contract tracing, social distancing and the possible changing capacities and reserved seat limitations at Marvel Stadium in 2021.
