Chris Judd continues to scale back his media committments after struggling to juggle his roles Carlton director and a football analyst.

Brownlow medallist Chris Judd is the latest big name to be leaving Triple M.

The former West Coast and Carlton champion has scaled back his media commitments and won’t be heard on the station’s Friday night football coverage in 2021.

Judd is understood to have reached the realisation there were too many conflicts with his role as Carlton football director and as a critical football analyst.

That was the reasoning for his departure from Channel 9’s Footy Classified in 2019.

Judd had been a co-host on the show for two years but found himself at the centre of a public Carlton controversy where club great Mark Maclure publicly called for him to apologise to coach David Teague for appearing to dismiss him as a candidate for the vacant senior coaching position.

Judd, one of five people responsible for ultimately appointing Teague as coach, told Footy Classified the club “don’t want someone with training wheels on” while Teague was serving as caretaker coach.

He was also criticised by footy legend Garry Lyon for failing to provide critical commentary of sacked Blues coach Brendon Bolton during his role on Nine as an expert commentator.

It’s believed a similar scenario played out with Triple M this year involving the recontracting of Eddie Betts.

Judd was questioned about the situation and found himself feeling uncomfortable about what he could and couldn’t say.

Given his numerous business interests Judd’s media work was almost a hobby for the AFL legend and something he fell into after his retirement in 2015 after 279 games.

Judd started dabbling with radio in 2016 doing a handful of games with Triple M before signing a multi-year contract with the station in 2017.

His sharp tongue and hilarious segment ‘Judge Juddy’ gained a cult following for the Friday night team which included Luke Darcy, Nathan Brown, Mark Howard and Damian Barrett.

But Judd is now keen to spend more time with his family and also enjoy going to footy with friends.

“I’ve loved my time working with Triple M getting to work alongside people who are great on and off air talent and many who I now also consider as friends,” Judd said.

“I’ve wound back all my football media commitments and am spending more time involved with various aspects of investment markets.

“The time is right for me to specialise more in that area of my work.”

The winds of change are blowing through Triple M with Eddie McGuire’s Hot Breakfast Show, which he co-hosts with Darcy, coming to an end after 11 years.
