AFL trade period: Catch up on all Tuesday's deals and trade moves

Essendon youngster Irving Mosquito might have revealed more than he meant to on Instagram. Meanwhile, more players have moved clubs in a late trade rush including a three-club deal. See all today's moves.

AFL Trade TV: Matt Turner

Five players found new homes as clubs stepped up the trade pace with time running out to Thursday's deadline.

But a host of huge deals are still up in the air.

Peter Wright, Braydon Preuss, Mitch Hannan, Stefan Martin, Lachie Young moved clubs and the Crows and Demons completed another deal to improve their draft position.

But Jeremy Cameron, Josh Dunkley, Adam Saad and Adam Treloar are among the players still waiting to find out of their trade wishes will be granted.

And there could be another big move on the cards, if an accidental leak by young Essendon forward Iriving Mosquito is anything to go by.

Recap all today's moves in the blog below.

SIMEON THOMAS-WILSON

He may concede he plays a “similar role” to the departed Joe Daniher but Essendon recruit Peter Wright says he isn’t the replacement for the famous Bomber name.
The 24-year-old former No.8 draft pick, who stands at 203cm, joined the -Bombers from Gold Coast on Tuesday, with the Suns receiving a future fourth-round pick.
Wright, who played 66 games and booted 86 goals for the Suns across six seasons, didn’t play an AFL game for Gold Coast in 2020 but has still been labelled as a replacement for Daniher in the wake of the father-son Bomber heading north to Brisbane.
Wright, who can also pinch-hit in the ruck, said he wasn’t “too sure about that”.
“I do play a somewhat similar role but I’m not going to read too much into that and just focus on playing my best football,” he said.
“I still think I have a lot of improvement to come and all my energy will go into channelling that.”
Despite not playing a game in 2020, Wright said he had made a lot of strides in working on how to play his best football each week.
“I’m working hard and even if I wasn’t playing at the level I wanted this year I could see a lot of growth in my game,” he said.
“I’m starting to really understand my game and what is my best football and how I can go about achieving that on a weekly basis.
“It is a journey, but I feel like I’m understanding what my best football looks like and how to achieve that and also working through the mental side of the game and the challenges that come with that.”
Wright said Essendon coach Ben Rutten and list manager Adrian Dodoro had spoken to him about a forward/ruck role at the Bombers.
“From a football perspective I think it is a really good fit, I definitely see a role there. There are no guarantees and I’m not expecting to walk into a game right away,” he said.
“I’ll be working towards that but I definitely see me playing my best football in a role there where I can contribute and help drive the group forward.”

New Bomber: I'm not Joe Daniher

Essendon livewire Irving Mosquito may have given away a lot more than he meant to in an Instagram post today.

Channel 7 reports Mosquito posted then quickly deleted a photo of himself at Essendon's Tullamarine HQ with coaching legend Kevin Sheedy.

The pair were sitting in front of a whiteboard and closer inspection revealed the phrase "Menegola + 13 + 20" written on the board between the goalsneak and Sheedy.

It is an apparent reference to Geelong's Sam Menegola, who has been floated as a potential player to break the trade deadlock between the Cats and GWS over Jeremy Cameron – a deal Essendon could get involved in.

The Cats currently hold picks 13 and 20 in the draft. There was an arrow on the whiteboard but Mosquito's head obscured what was written after it.

Menegola is contracted until 2021 and has just enjoyed a career-best season.

Brisbane, the Western Bulldogs and North Melbourne have just swapped players and draft picks in a three-way trade.

The deal sends veteran Lions ruckman Stefan Martin to the Dogs and Bulldogs backman Lachie Young to Arden St.

Here are all the details:

10 deals that led to Collingwood fire sale

JON RALPH

Every cent of the $6 million the Dogs were prepared to pay Tom Boyd was worth it for the drought-breaking premiership victory.
At Collingwood, few would be quibbling about the club’s suffocating salary cap squeeze if Dom Sheed’s fateful shot at goal had drifted left or right.
Clubs in premiership contention have tight caps.
They back-end deals to stay in the premiership window and, like Essendon and Brisbane in the early 2000s, are often prepared to risk that fallout because of the importance of winning flags.
The issue for Collingwood and list manager Ned Guy is that the Pies didn’t win the flag in what was their premium window – 2018-20 – but are a long way from wanting to rebuild.

Guy has spent three years trying to straighten out the club’s cap from a former regime that brought in the likes of Levi Greenwood, Daniel Wells and Chris Mayne on overpriced deals.

Now Collingwood is in the position of having to offload the likes of Adam Treloar and potentially Mason Cox, Tom Phillips and Jaidyn Stephenson.
Here are the 10 contracts that have got the Pies into this position.

Melbourne ruckman Braydon Preuss is now a Giant.

He joins GWS in a straight swap for pick 31.

He has played 18 games at North Melbourne and Melbourne after being stuck behind Todd Goldstein and Max Gawn, but now we'll get to see how he performs as the No.1 ruckman.

After a bit of a lull that's the fourth deal of the day – things are starting to warm up.

“We're excited to welcome Braydon to the Giants for at least the next three seasons,” GWS football manager Jason McCartney said.

“We were in the market for a ruckman and earmarked Braydon very early as someone who could add significantly to our list.

“We were thrilled that he chose the Giants for the next chapter of his career and it’s a great endorsement for our club.

“Braydon has had a tremendous apprenticeship under star rucks Todd Goldstein and Max Gawn and is ready to take his game to the next level."
