AFL teams round 10: Every line-up and the latest selection news

Carlton have named a sub for Friday’s clash with Collingwood that may surprise a few, while the Pies are likely to welcome back Darcy Cameron, but not in their starting 22. See the full teams here.

Carlton has broken rank and named its sub for Sunday’s blockbuster against Collingwood more than a day before the first bounce.

Weeks after Blues coach Michael Voss hit out at the need for clubs to omit players to select them as sub, Carlton announced George Hewett would be the club’s 23rd man on Friday evening.

“It’s one of the craziest rules I’ve ever seen, the fact you have to omit someone to put someone back in I just don’t know why you can’t be name the 23 but it is what it is,” Voss said.

Other coaches including Damien Hardwick have also questioned why players must be dropped from the previous round’s team to be listed as sub.

Hewett was one of of Carlton’s midfield generals last season but has had a significant drop in output in eight matches this year.

The Blues have preferred fellow on-baller Matthew Kennedy, who has also been used as sub this year.

Collingwood is poised to select ruckman Darcy Cameron as its sub as he returns from injury for his first game since round 3.

St Kilda captain Jack Steele has overcome a knee concern to be named for Sunday’s clash against GWS Giants, while Hawthorn has regained ruckman Ned Reeves for its match against fellow battler West Coast.

PIES’ YOUNG GUNS SENT HOME, IN DOUBT FOR BLUES GRUDGE MATCH

The flu has struck Collingwood, with coach Craig McRae confirming both Jack Ginnivan and Ash Johnson were sent home from training on Friday.

McRae didn’t rule the pair out on Friday, saying the club would wait 24 hours before making its call.

“They’ve both sort of got the man flu, if you like,” McRae said.

“We’ve got a principle right now, this time last year, everyone got sick, including myself, and I said if you’re sick you’re not coming in.

“We meet them at the door and then send them home if they’ve got something and those two got sent home.

“I’m not sure exactly where that fits, we’ll wait for the next twenty four hours.

“I think we’re probably better placed to make a decision tomorrow.’

ROOS HIT WITH SEVEN CHANGES AS STARS RETURN

Prized youngster George Wardlaw will make his AFL debut for an injury-ravaged North Melbourne against Sydney on Saturday, with the embattled club making seven changes.

Wardlaw, who drew comparisons to Melbourne midfield beast Clayton Oliver as a junior for his contested ball-winning, has been cruelled by hamstring setbacks over the past year but will get his chance after finishing with 19 disposals, two goals and 104 SuperCoach ranking points in the VFL last week.

The No.4 draft pick’s debut is a faint glimmer of hope for the club and its fans after coach Alastair Clarkson stood down indefinitely on Thursday.

But the Roos will be without five players due to injury headlined by midfield star Luke Davies-Uniacke, with Cam Zurhaar, Darcy Tucker, Flynn Perez and Jack Mahony also missing with setbacks and defender Aidan Corr out suspended.

Interim coach Brett Ratten’s side will have a fresh look with youngsters Wardlaw, Will Phillips, Tom Powell and Eddie Ford being brought in, along with Callum Coleman-Jones, who is coming off a nine-goal haul in the VFL.

Their opponents the Swans have injury woes themselves with star trio Callum Mills, Logan McDonald and Tom Hickey adding to their list of casualties, leading coach John Longmire to hand 209cm ruck-forward Lachlan McAndrew a debut.

Richmond co-captain Toby Nankervis has been named in the ruck for the Dreamtime at the ‘G clash, with the big man set to combat Essendon’s ruck duo alongside emerging Tiger Samson Ryan.

Interceptor Jordan Ridley will return for the Bombers but they will be without promising recruit Will Setterfield, who the club revealed on Wednesday will miss a number of weeks with a foot fracture.

Collingwood has named Darcy Cameron on an extended bench for its blockbuster clash against Carlton on Sunday.

Unsigned tall Tom De Koning has been selected in the Blues’ squad of 26 after being left out of the senior side and then suffering delayed concussion from a knock in the VFL a fortnight ago.

Melbourne has brought back premiership duo Tom McDonald and Christian Salem for its top-four blockbuster against Port Adelaide, with Salem playing his first senior game for the year after being sidelined by a thyroid issue and then a knee injury.

Meanwhile the Power has bolstered its ruck stocks for its battle with Max Gawn and Brodie Grundy by promoting Scott Lycett, with Ken Hinkley naming Charlie Dixon despite the spearhead being in doubt with injury.

Spearhead Max King will play his first match of the season against the Giants after overcoming injury setbacks dating back to December, while Jade Gresham and Jimmy Webster have also been picked in St Kilda’s side.

Toby Greene is set to return for Greater Western Sydney, with Jake Riccardi, Josh Fahey and Kieren Briggs named on an extended bench.

The reigning premiers Geelong will receive a boost with Tyson Stengle, Jack Henry and Brad Close all named to return, but veteran Mitch Duncan has succumbed to a hamstring setback.

Adelaide has pulled a selection surprise in managing in-form spearhead Taylor Walker for its important clash against the Western Bulldogs following his five goal haul last week.

The Crows will also be without Riley Thiltorpe and Tom Doedee due to injury but will welcome back Nick Murray after he observed the AFL’s 12-day concussion protocols.

The Dogs have omitted key defender Alex Keath instead of round 9 debutant James O’Donnell, who has held his spot despite being subbed out with four touches in their win over Carlton.
