AFL teams: Jacob Weitering to debut for Carlton, while Richmond names Daniel Rioli

RICHMOND and Carlton will both unveil prized draftees in Thursday night’s season-opener at the MCG.

No.1 overall pick Jacob Weitering is set to make his debut after putting up strong performances for the Blues during the NAB Challenge.

Exciting Tigers forward Daniel Rioli has also been selected to fill the void left by injured trio Brett Deledio, Ivan Maric and Shaun Grigg.

Rioli was recruited from the North Ballarat Rebels and is the cousin of Hawthorn’s Cyril.

The goalsneak will wear the No.17 jumper also worn by great uncle Maurice, a Richmond champion and Norm Smith Medallist.

Rioli will make his debut alongside ex-Giants hard nut Jacob Townsend.

Blues skipper Marc Murphy has also been given the green light at selection to lead a side that includes four new faces.

Murphy was in doubt following clean-up surgery last December on his reconstructed shoulder.

Former Crows Sam Kerridge, Matt Wright and ex-Giant Jed Lamb have also been named in the Blues’ 22 for Round 1.
