West Coast has an influx of changes for its derby clash with a whopping 12 inclusions named to face Fremantle on Sunday evening, but more Eagles have been ruled out under the AFL’s health and safety protocols.
The decimated Eagles were forced to call on five WAFL top-up players to fill a side in their loss to North Melbourne last week, with most of their outs sidelined due to Covid-19.

Eagles stars Nic Naitanui, Andrew Gaff and Josh Kennedy headline a star cast of ins ahead of the contest against their arch-rivals.
But the Eagles have lost a further five players — Luke Shuey, Willie Rioli, Liam Dugan, Bailey Williams and Jack Williams — to health and safety protocols as well as explosive midfielder Tim Kelly to injury.
The Dockers have been dealt a double blow with ruckman Sean Darcy and gun midfielder Caleb Serong out with injury, while No.10 draft pick Neil Erasmus will make his senior debut.
Tigers star backflip, Saints’ SuperCoach rookie call
Jack Riewoldt has fallen short in his bid to make it back from thumb surgery to play in Sunday’s Maddie’s Match against St Kilda at Marvel Stadium.
The Tigers had named the star forward in their initial squad but left him out when teams were released on Friday afternoon.
Riewoldt underwent thumb surgery after an injury in round one.
The Tigers do welcome back key defender Dylan Grimes from injury.
Tigers co-captain Dylan Grimes has been named, while last week’s medical sub Hugo Ralphsmith has been elevated into the Tigers’ 22.
The Saints ruck department has been bolstered by the naming of Paddy Ryder, who will work alongside fellow tall Rowan Marshall after recovering from an Achilles issue, while Dougal Howard is back from Covid protocols.
Mature-age ruck-forward Jack Hayes, a popular KFC SuperCoach pick who had shared the ruck duties with Marshall in Ryder’s absence, has been named on the bench.
Exciting youngster Will Day returns to Hawthorn’s line-up to replace injured skipper Ben McEvoy (neck).
The Hawks opponent on Sunday, Carlton, lose Mitch McGovern to a hamstring and Oscar McDonald to injury, but welcome back prized recruit Adam Cerra and Jack Martin (Covid protocols).
West Coast and Fremantle will name their Sunday teams on Saturday.
In other teams news, Geelong recalled Sam De Koning and Shaun Higgins and omitted Zach Guthrie and Luke Dahlhaus, Braydon Preuss will play his first game for GWS as a sole ruckman after Matthew Flynn was dropped, Hawthorn named Will Day for his first game of the year and North Melbourne recalled Jaidyn Stephenson.
Adam Cerra and Jack Martin are back for Carlton after missing last week’s win against the Bulldogs due to Covid protocols, which also named former Bulldog Lewis Young for his first game for the club. Mitch McGovern is out injured.

The Blues said McGovern reported hamstring awareness and scans revealed a grade one strain that is set to sideline him for 4-5 weeks.
“Mitch has had a really strong start to the season, off the back of a mountain of work he put in over the summer,” Carlton head of football Brad Lloyd said.
“This injury obviously isn’t ideal for Mitch, but given the strong base he’s built for himself over the last few months, it gives him the best possible platform to launch into his rehab and return to the side in about a month.
“We’re fortunate to have our VFL side putting in some really strong performances in recent weeks so there will be an opportunity for players to step in and take their chance at AFL level, as we’ve already seen happen in the first few weeks of the season.”
Port Adelaide named Sam Mayes and second-gamer Jed McEntee and dropped Jeremy Finlayson and Josh Sinn after his debut last week.
Adelaide made three changes for the Showdown, regaining best-and-fairest winner Rory Laird but losing Rory Sloane to injury.
In encouraging news for the Bombers small forward Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti will make his long-awaited return on Saturday in the club’s VFL clash with the Casey Demons.
Young defender Zach Reid will also play his first game of 2022 on Saturday, alongside McDonald-Tipungwuti.
Meanwhile, Collingwood will unleash teenage midfielder Reef McInnes for his first game against Geelong at the MCG on Saturday.
The Magpies get back defender Brayden Maynard from a two-week suspension but have lost both Beau McCreery and Nathan Kreuger to injury ahead of Saturday night’s clash with Geelong at the MCG.
He earned his spot with two goals and 15 possessions in the VFL last weekend.

Key defender Dougal Howard (health and safety protocols) is another important addition for St Kilda’s clash with Richmond at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.
Port Adelaide has dropped off-season recruit Jeremy Finlayson and given Todd Marshall a reprieve as it seeks to find it the best forward formula without star Charlie Dixon.
Port will instead field a shorter forward line in the inaugural Friday night’s clash with the Crows, bringing Jed McEntee and Sam Mayes into the team to play alongside Marshall and Mitch Georgiades.
Five-time Showdown Medallist Robbie Gray will be sidelined because of Covid protocols.
Bombers football boss Josh Mahoney said McDonald-Tipungwuti was ready to make what will be a popular return to the field.
“We’re excited to have ‘Walla’ (McDonald-Tipungwuti) back available to play a VFL game this weekend,” Mahoney said.
“He’s been working hard and increasing his training loads over the past four to six weeks, and this is another step in his progression towards returning to play AFL football.”
