AFL Round 6: Key SuperCoach takeaways from Easter Sunday matches

The Bont is back – and his SuperCoach price is heading in the wrong direction for potential owners. See all the key takeaways from two huge games.

Disaster for Dogs as Darcy limps off injured

The Bulldogs are in the eight and St Kilda is looking for answers after a Marcus Bontempelli master class on Sunday night.

Playing his first game for the year after recovering from a calf injury, the Bulldogs skipper was unstoppable as the Dogs completely took over the game in the second and third quarters before going into party mode in the last.

Earlier, Port Adelaide held off a fast-finishing Sydney.

Here are the big SuperCoach takeaways from Easter Sunday.

1. The Big Dog is back

Injuries to Marcus Bontempelli and Zak Butters late in the pre-season changed the make-up of thousands of SuperCoach teams. Now the question is, how do we get them back? The best scenario for coaches would be for both to take a few rounds to get back to full match fitness and we could grab them at a discounted price. So much for that. Butters blew Sydney away with 164 points then Bont almost matched him with 159 in his first game for the year. Both could increase in price from their already monster price tags. Start saving those pennies.

2. Trade regrets? I’ve had a few

Trading underperforming mid-pricers has a way of coming back to haunt you in SuperCoach, with prime examples across the weekend. At Marvel Stadium on Sunday Joel Freijah (120) and Ryley Sanders (115) added their names to a long list that also includes Swan Matt Roberts (119) - who was traded out by 11,000 coaches this week.

3. Sam Powell-Pepper powers on

More than 11,000 coaches pulled the pin on Sam Powell-Pepper one game into the season. And that seemed like a reasonable move after he managed just 18 points in a horror loss to Collingwood. Since then he has quietly been one of the best rookies of the season, adding almost $100,000 to his price tag. And that profit is going to balloon further after he scored 106 points – his second ton in a row – against the Swans.

3. It’s a cruel game

Sam Darcy was on target for one of the best breakout SuperCoach seasons in recent times, averaging 109 points coming into round 6. But he managed just 15 points before his knee buckled in the first quarter, likely ruling him out of for the season. That’s a forced trade for his 22,000 owners.
