Magpie Tyler Brown’s season is over, with the midfielder to undergo surgery on the shoulder that has troubled him all season.

The son of Collingwood great Gavin, Brown will go under the knife on Wednesday after seven senior appearances this year.

The club said recurring shoulder dislocations have resulted in the surgery.

The timing of the operation was put on hold due to Covid restrictions after a decision was reached last week.

Mason Cox (larynx), Beau McCreery (calf), Trey Ruscoe (ankle) and Brayden Sier (jaw) will look to overcome their respective injuries and be available for the Queen’s Birthday clash with Melbourne at the SCG.

All will be tested on the track this week.

The club says star on-baller Taylor Adams (knee) is progressing well and is two weeks away from a return.

Ruckman Brodie Grundy (neck) is two weeks away, while defender Jeremy Howe (hamstring) is listed as six weeks away from being available.

First-year Magpie Reef McInnes is out of the moon boot but he is a month to five weeks away.

SCANS CONFIRM LENGTHY STINT ON SIDELINES FOR DONS STAR

Essendon midfielder Andrew McGrath faces up to three months on the sidelines after confirmation of a posterior cruciate ligament tear.

McGrath was subbed out of the Bombers’ loss to Richmond in the first quarter after hurting his knee in the Dreamtime clash in Perth on Saturday night.

Scans confirmed the Bombers co-vice captain has suffered a grade two PCL tear.

Essendon general manager of football Josh Mahoney said the injury was set to sideline McGrath for between eight to 12 weeks.

“We are really disappointed for Andy, who was putting together a consistent season to date as part of our midfield group,” Mahoney said.

“Andy is a true professional who will be very driven to see a return to play as soon as possible.

“We know he will attack his rehabilitation program and continue to contribute to the team while not playing.”

McGrath has averaged 24 disposals a game for the Bombers this year.

Fellow midfielder David Zaharakis also experienced hamstring tightness in the loss to the Tigers at Optus Stadium.

The Bombers have returned to Melbourne ahead of this weekend’s bye before their Round 14 clash against Hawthorn.

One in, one out as luckless Tiger goes down again

At Richmond, Tiger Kane Lambert’s certain recall for Sunday’s clash against West Coast will be offset by yet another soft-tissue injury to gun midfielder Dion Prestia.

Damien Hardwick said Prestia reported tightness in his hamstring. But he had only returned the previous round from an eight-week break that he’d used to build up his body after calf and hamstring issues.

The Tigers are thrilled with the progress of Toby Nankervis, who was out with a “medium term” PCL tear, but has made a lightning recovery.

He might still be two weeks away but for a Tigers side gathering steam at 7-5 it is yet another positive sign.

Richmond flew home on the red-eye on Saturday night to Sydney after blowing out Essendon late, then will fly back to West Australia on Saturday.

They will train using Coogee as their base, happy to fly five hours to be allowed to live a normal life out of hotel lockdown during the week.”

“Kane Lambert is available to play next week,” Hardwick said.

“We are not quite sure what happens with Dion, and Toby Nankervis is progressing a lot better than we thought, so we have some players who will come into the selection frame.

“We can certainly get a whole lot better.”

GEARY’S BIG DECISION

St Kilda will assess co-captain Jarryn Geary’s dislocated shoulder and consider surgery.

His shoulder took 25 minutes to pop back into its socket, but he could decide to play through the pain after several weeks of rest.
