AFL 2021: Collingwood fan restrained by security for abusing umpires after loss to Brisbane

An irate Collingwood fan had to be restrained by security after hurling abuse at the umpires following the Magpies’ loss to the Lions. Watch the video.

Security had to restrain an irate Collingwood fan as he clambered up a protective screen and abused umpires after Thursday night’s one-point loss to Brisbane at Marvel Stadium.

Footage shows the agitated fan pulling himself to the top of the perspex screen and screaming at the umpires as they walked from the ground and down the race.

An angry father is seen on the clip grabbing his young son and lifting him to his chest as he his told to leave by a security guard.

The Lions were trailing by five points with less than a minute to go but pulled victory from the jaws of defeat when Zac Bailey slotted a match-winning goal after the final siren.

A number of broadcast staff posted on social media that Collingwood fans had then cut up rough at the game’s officiators.

3AW boundary rider Jacqui Reed described the incident as “shocking scenes to end the game”

“A couple of Collingwood fans ran down towards the umpires race yelling and fighting the security guard. well done to that security guard, he did so well to keep everyone safe,” Reed posted on Twitter.

She also posted a clip of the post-match scenes.

“Super scary when you’re wearing headphones and don’t hear anyone coming and suddenly they’re right in front of you! Well done to the security guard,” she wrote.

The AFL and Collingwood have been contacted for comment.
