Western Bulldogs stars Easton Wood and Jack Macrae injured in loss to Port Adelaide
IT just wasn’t the Western Bulldogs’ night. A slow start only got worse when captain Easton Wood was joined on the sidelines by star midfielder Jack Macrae. And there was more to come.

THE Western Bulldogs are counting the cost of a “nightmarish” loss to Port Adelaide in which Luke Beveridge’s team suffered a spate of injuries.
Beveridge could only watch as captain Easton Wood suffered a serious hamstring injury and also lost midfielder Jackson Macrae (hamstring), Lukas Webb (thumb) and Tom Boyd (finger).
Beveridge said he was proud of the fight his team showed in the face of extreme adversity but his club was set to be deprived of significant manpower in coming weeks after slipping to a 4-8 record.

“Easton will be out for a while, we’ll need to assess it but he’ll be out for a long time I would say,” Beveridge said after the match.
“It’s the one on the other side — he hurt his hamstring against Brisbane a while ago — and it’s not the same injury but it’s on the other leg up high.
“Jack Macrae was tight, wasn’t too bad but we just couldn’t risk it — not sure what his is but it’s a hamstring.
“Lukas Webb (has got a) broken thumb, he’ll need surgery on that tomorrow to get fixed, so he’ll be out for two or three weeks.
“Tom Boyd (has a) compound dislocation of a finger, so he’ll be out (for a while).”
Perhaps the only good news to come for the Dogs — apart from a three-goal cameo to youngster Ed Richards — was Marcus Bontempelli escaping any significant damage after he too was forced from the field.
“We think Marcus is all right with that hyperextension to his knee, but he was very ginger afterwards and he sort of lost his impact and he’d been very influential in getting us back in the game.”
Beveridge praised “tough bugger” Toby McLean who he said “probably shouldn’t have been out there” after copping a heavy knock early in the game.
The coach was also a big wrap for former Power defender Jackson Trengove.
“I thought (he) was outstanding,” Beveridge said.
“He played the whole game. He had to because we sort of couldn’t afford to take him off.
“He was superb against his old team.”
