Western Bulldogs midfielder Jack Macrae claims No.1 spot in Herald Sun Super Rankings

WESTERN Bulldogs midfielder Jack Macrae has emerged as one of the elite midfielders in the competition as he continues to lead from the front for the Bulldogs and is now the No.1 players in the AFL according to the Herald Sun Super Rankings.

GUN Western Bulldogs midfielder Jack Macrae has emerged as one of the premier midfielders of the competition this season and has surged to the top of the Herald Sun Super Rankings.

Macrae ended Round 6 in fourth position but after a dominant 40-disposal and one-goal game against Gold Coast on Saturday, he has climbed three spots to displace Melbourne ruckman Max Gawn at the top.

The 23-year-old has been a shining light for the Bulldogs, enjoying one of the best seasons of his career after assuming more responsibility in leading the young midfield group.

Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge praised Macrae for his start to the season and his leadership.

“I think he has (elevated his game),” Beveridge said.

“He hasn’t always had the best starts to years over his career and we feel like he’s had a pretty solid start to this one.

“Now he’s getting tagged and he got tagged again but he found time to play the team game and make sure that we got some freedom around stoppage and by doing that he freed himself up.

“So he’s learning to work through that.”

Gawn ranks second behind Macrae after another standout performance against St Kilda, while fellow ruckman Brodie Grundy is now the fourth-ranked player after sliding down two positions.

Fremantle superstar Nat Fyfe was one to make a move, now inside the top five, while Collingwood star Adam Treloar has moved up two spots to No.8.

Reigning Brownlow Medallist Dustin Martin could fall out of the top 10 after slipping three spots.

Macrae’s teammate Toby McLean was also one of the big movers in Round 7, jumping up eight spots to move into 12th position.

The young Bulldogs is having a breakout season, averaging 25 disposals.
