Tyson Goldsack was dropped for the 2010 Grand final draw and has thought about potential pain this week

TYSON Goldsack won a premiership in 2010 but only after being recalled for the Grand Final replay. He hasn’t forgotten the pain of being dropped and has thought about the prospect of missing this week’s decider.

Goldsack pleads with Victorians to get behind Collingwood at the grand final

TYSON Goldsack is prepared for the monster task of quelling Eagles spearhead Josh Kennedy but has also considered the heartbreaking scenario he could be replaced in the Grand Final side for the second time in his career.

Goldsack was dropped for the 2010 drawn Grand Final, where he was replaced by Leon Davis, before winning a reprieve for the victorious replay.

NO MOPRE: DARCY NOT RIGHT FOR PRELIM

While Collingwood’s side has been unchanged since Goldsack, Jeremy Howe and Adam Treloar returned for the Qualifying Final, defenders Darcy Moore and Ben Reid are waiting in the wings.

Goldsack, a fairytale story after injuring his ACL in March, said the memories of 2010 were still fresh.

“Can I remember it? I remember it as clear as, crystal clear, as if it was yesterday,” Goldsack said.

“It was one of the toughest weeks followed by one of the most euphoric weeks.

“To not find out until late in the week the first week that I was not going to play was tough. I knew I was iffy, to get the news was flattening, heartbreaking.

“Then the next week it wasn’t about taking someone’s spot, it was just about ‘I’m here, I can do a job, pick me Mick, I swear, I won’t let you down.’

“And I would say to Bucks, if I’m the right person, then pick me, if I’m not the right the person, don’t pick me.

“ … I do not envy the selection committee’s position this week.

“If you think a change needs to be made, I have no doubt Bucks will make the right call.

“He’ll pick the team that’s best placed to play against West Coast.

“If it’s me, then it’s me. Don’t worry, I’ve thought about that.

“Lightening has struck twice, if it happens to be me.

“But if I go out, it means that some one is coming in that is going to be above and beyond what I am capable of doing and I just hope that they win.

“I seriously don’t want to go through it again, but if that’s what happens, that’s what happens.”

Goldsack held Kennedy well for three quarters during the Qualifying Final before the talented Eagle found form.

But he said he was prepared to play any role down back on Saturday.

“We do our research on what he likes to do and where he’s most damaging and what he’s doing when he’s most damaging and then you just try to nullify that,” Goldsack said.

“ … I back myself in, I’ve done the work, I’m a good enough defender, I move well enough to defend anybody and as a team we defend really well.”
