DELISTED Collingwood forward Jarryd Blair has made a public pitch for a rookie list spot at another club and says he would be happy to move to Gold Coast to continue his AFL career.

The Magpies confirmed yesterday that Tyson Goldsack, Levi Greenwood, Josh Daicos and Brody Mihocek had all signed new contracts.

But Blair, a member of the 2010 premiership team, has been delisted along with Adam Oxley, Josh Smith and Sam McLarty. Kayle Kirby has retired.

Blair, 28, played 157 games in nine seasons but just two this year. He was an emergency for the Grand Final.

“I couldn’t say I was blindsided by it, I was given two games throughout this year and my body was still good and I felt like I was performing OK so it’s not like I was surprised by it when I was actually tapped on the shoulder and told it was time,” Blair said on SEN.

“Not that it made it any easier, but I did see it coming.

“I’m not sure what’s next, we’re working through a few things and still hopeful of landing somewhere else. The body’s good, the mind still wants to go on, and we’re just hopeful of trying to get somewhere.”

Blair said he would happily take a call from Gold Coast recruiters.

“I would actually love to get up there and have a run around,” he said.

“Even if I end up back on a rookie list somewhere I’ll be happy because I still feel like I’ve got the ability to play AFL football so (I’d take) a spot on the list anywhere, work my way through the twos and hopefully provide something at AFL level.”

Oxley was cut and re-drafted as a rookie 12 months ago, but won’t be offered another lifeline after managing only three senior games in the Pies’ 2018 charge to the Grand Final.

The defender, 25, was given the news on Monday as Collingwood moves closer to finalising its 2019 list.

Josh Smith will follow Blair and Oxley out the door, with the Grand Final Pies suddenly bursting with depth.

Smith made an excellent start to life at AFL level, playing 18 games in 2016 to become a Nathan Buckley favourite, but he has steadily fallen out of favour as teammates have gone past him.

At 24, the Queenslander would appear an ideal fit for Gold Coast, but it’s understood there has been little interest shown in Smith by the Suns.

Collingwood list manager Ned Guy thanked all five departing players for their contributions to the club.

“Each of these players has been important to our success this year in different ways, on and off the field,” Guy said.

“It’s never easy to say goodbye and we’re going to miss having these boys at the club. Jarryd, for example, has been a popular figure in the dressing room and around the club for almost a decade.

“We’d like to wish each of them the very best as they start the next chapter of their lives.”

Collingwood trumpeted seven new signings earlier this month, with Josh Thomas (three more years), Tom Langdon (three), Darcy Moore (two), Flynn Appleby (two), Lynden Dunn (one), Jamie Elliott (one) and Tim Broomhead (one) all putting pen to paper.

Forwards Josh Daicos and Brody Mihocek each penned two-year deals, while popular premiership player Tyson Goldsack and tagger Levi Greenwood will play on next season.

Kirby has retired because of a heart issue.

Tim Broomhead will be delisted and re-drafted as a rookie along with Sam Murray, who is currently the subject of an ASADA investigation and serving a provisional suspension.

There’s better news for ESSENDON’S Ben McNeice and Mark Baguley who scored new deals, with teammate Matt Dea now the only Bombers out of contract.

BULLDOGS best-and-fairest winner Tom Liberatore put pen to paper today, while RICHMOND is yet to lock in premiership player Jacob Townsend.
