The history of AFL rules changes

WHEN Australian rules began in 1858 it was pretty simple - there were few rules. Fast-forward 160 years and proposed changes to the game have fans, pundits and players up in arms. Look back over how much has already been altered.

WHEN Australian rules began in 1858 it was pretty simple - there were few rules.

Fast-forward 160 years and proposed changes to the game have fans, pundits and players up in arms.

In 1859 10 rules were introduced by the Melbourne Football Club.

Twelve months later the tinkering of these rules began.
