Sam Newman says Nathan Buckley, Alastair Clarkson and Ross Lyon should move to new clubs

SAM Newman has been around a long time. But as far as crazy ideas go, his plans for Buckley, Lyon and Clarkson in 2018 is from the top shelf. And Eddie McGuire wasn’t happy about it.

IS this Sam Newman’s craziest idea yet?

We’ve heard of some bombshell player trades before, but how about a three-way coach trade?

The Geelong legend has proposed three of the biggest names in AFL coaching switch clubs at the end of the season because their message has “gone stale”.

Newman wants to see Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley move to Hawthorn, Dockers coach Ross Lyon move to Collingwood and Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson head north to the Gold Coast.

“You should dispense with Nathan Buckley’s services,” Newman told The Footy Show host and Collingwood president Eddie McGuire on Thursday night.

“As Hawthorn should dispense with Alastair Clarkson and … the Fremantle Dockers should dispense with Ross Lyon.

“They should be shuffled round in the interests of the game being developed further. They have lost their message at their respective clubs.

“Clarkson should go up to the Gold Coast. That would be fantastic.

“Ross Lyon, because you (McGuire) have spoken to him, should come over to Collingwood. Buckley could go to Hawthorn.

“The message has gone stale. They should have a shuffle round.”

While the Footy Show crowd was quick to get behind the idea, McGuire was less than impressed.

He once again denied his club had had any contact with Lyon about a potential move to the Holden Centre.

“It is a total lie. There has been no discussion with any coach,” he said.

“Nothing is happening. I get sick of all this. Brad Scott was going to coach Collingwood, then Paul Roos was in there.”

Of the three coaches Newman brought up, Buckley is the only one who is out of contract.

Meanwhile, in its second week back on air the revamped Footy Show was met with mixed reviews from fans.

McGuire has made a positive impact with viewers but comedian Dave Hughes continues to annoy.
