Kevin Sheedy says James Hird is the best coach Essendon has had since his departure, and the truth will one day emerge about a miscarriage of justice on the club’s supplements program.

Sheedy, who remains employed by the Bombers in their marketing team, told the Sacked Podcast he is still troubled by many aspects of the ASADA investigation.

The four-time Dons’ premiership coach says Jobe Watson should have kept the Brownlow Medal stripped by the AFL Commission.

Hird returned as coach after a 12-month ban, but was axed just short of a year later.

“James has been the best coach Essendon has had since I left (in 2007), and history will say that at the moment,” Sheedy said.

“I will sit back and watch. It will be 10 years soon enough (since the supplements program). And I hope to stay alive long enough to find out how it all pans out. For Hird and Jobe.

“Jobe has lost a Brownlow. I still put him down as winning a Brownlow. (Dustin Fletcher) wasn’t even tested. The samples went to Europe and he gets suspended a year. How do you do that? I find that incredible.”

Many people linked to Essendon are still fighting for a full explanation about the case, and then chairman David Evans is yet to speak about the events leading up to the club’s decision to self-report its issues to the AFL.

The blood samples have been kept after being sent to a laboratory in Cologne.

Sheedy is stunned that his former assistant at Greater Western Sydney, Mark Williams, remains out of the AFL.

The Port Adelaide premiership coach took Werribee to the VFL semi-finals this year.

Sheedy says too many AFL clubs are not prepared to rock the boat and embrace Williams’ nature.

“Choco is the best coach not coaching. It’s an absolute joke. They can’t handle him,’’ he said.

“People off the field struggle with his method of seriousness about the job.

“It’s the reason I got him up to the Giants.

“I knew he would do the job while I was out there knocking on doors and raising funds and trying to build standards.

“Sometimes he can be too (intense), but he is a great educational coach and great on the computer.

“He is coaching at Werribee and I find that incredible.

“If I was going to go and put a team together of people who would get a club to get to the heights they desire I would have him in that club.

“Port Adelaide let him go and good luck — since then they have done nothing.

“Fremantle has got to one Grand final in a quarter of a century.

“You need the right people at the club to give you a chance.”
