Richmond star Alex Rance says recruiting Tom Lynch could upset the apple cart at the Tigers

EVERY club in the AFL would love to have Tom Lynch running around in their forward line. Or so we thought. Alex Rance has a warning for his club’s recruiters, saying signing Lynch could ‘upset the apple cart’ at the Tigers.

RICHMOND superstar Alex Rance has cautioned his club’s list management team against recruiting Tom Lynch.

Lynch is out of contract at the end of the season and is the most sought after free agent in the game.

The Tigers are one of the clubs considered in the mix to land the star forward however, according to Rance, the reigning premiers should be careful adding a big fish.

“I’m really proud of the way our list management has been over the last few years,” Rance said on Fox Footy.

“Dusty (Dustin Martin) is the best player in the competition in my opinion and deserves the dollars he gets. I don’t necessarily believe, in my opinion, that we should be upsetting the apple cart to go and chase a big fish.

“I’d support it because it means I wouldn’t have to play on him but I think you always have to look at the big picture when it comes to these things.”

Lynch, 25, has booted 248 goals across his 127 game career.

The Gold Coast skipper played his junior football for the Dandenong Stingrays and could be swayed by a return to his home state of Victoria.

He gave all Melbourne based clubs an insight into just how damaging he could be in Round 2 when he booted eight goals against Carlton at Etihad Stadium.

Rance said Richmond’s team structure would be interesting with Lynch at the club.

“I guess team structure would be an interesting one,” he said.

“I wouldn’t really know what it would look like with him in the side because I am so happy with the way our structure is.

“He is a gun and you obviously want to accumulate as many guns in your artillery as possible. It would be an interesting situation to see what happens. Luckily, it’s not my call.”

The Tigers signed off on one of the biggest deals of all-time last year when they locked Dustin Martin into a new contract.

Rance said paying another player similar money wasn’t something that would bother him.

He also backed the club’s culture to overcome any strong personalities coming in.

“I think money is neither here nor there,” he said.

“Every club has enough money these days. We are in a fortunate enough position that we have a good supporter base and are able to pay players what they’re worth.

“I feel like our culture could overcome any strong personality that comes about. It wouldn’t matter if it was Tom Lynch or Jack the Ripper. I think our culture would be able to deal with that personality.”
