ST KILDA coach Alan Richardson is trying to find Maverick Weller a new footy home only weeks after delisting him as “a couple of clubs” circle the midfielder/forward.

Weller was cut by the Saints at the end of last month’s trade period following the recruitment of Dan Hannebery from Sydney and Dean Kent from Melbourne left no spot for him on the list.

Richardson has been acting as an advocate for Weller, 26, by talking to various clubs about why they should recruit him.

He can be signed by a club during the delisted free agency period, which closes on Thursday but will open again on November 10.

“I’ve actually spoken to Richo five or six times since I finished up with the Saints,” Weller said.

“He’s been a good voice for me, talking to other clubs and telling them what I can do, where I played or why I played in the forward line and that sort of thing, which has been really good.

“He’s been a really good advocate for me to get somewhere else.”

Weller played 89 games for St Kilda but managed only 13 this year after joining the club from Gold Coast, where he played 32 games, at the end of 2013.

The midfielder/forward revealed his management has spoken to clubs about the possibility of joining them in 2019 and could return to the Suns to play with his brother, Lachie.

“I’d definitely welcome the opportunity to go up there and play some footy with my brother. I reckon that’d be bucket list sort of stuff,” Weller told Macquarie Sports Radio.

“My manager is talking to a few clubs, which is positive but I’ve just got to sit tight at the moment, which is the hard thing because all the clubs are working out what they’ve got. There’s a lot of conversations but nothing in concrete yet.

“I’ve just got to be patient and see what happens.

“I’m just worrying about what I can control, get my body right, get my mind right.”

Weller wants to spend more time in the midfield should he find a new home after being pushed out of St Kilda’s onball brigade.

Should a move to Gold Coast not eventuate, he’d be happy to play anywhere.

“I just want to keep my career alive and keep playing footy while I can,” he said.
