About 150km away in Wagga Wagga, was Carey, who went on to become one of the greatest AFL players in history.

Carey was named captain of the greatest ever NSW team, with his vice-captain Sydney Swans legend Paul Kelly.

The exhaustive selection process chaired by former Swans Chairman Richard Colless, uncovered more than 130 Swans players who came under consideration for an all-time NSW team.

Premiership stars from 2005 Leo Barry and Brett Kirk were selected, while 2012 stars McVeigh and Jack were also named, paying tribute to the rich production line of talent to come out of the Pennant Hills club.

Another Sydney local, St Kilda champion and now GWS Giants assistant coach Lenny Hayes was also chosen.

Current Swan Dane Rampe just missed out on the side but was named as an emergency.

The Daniher family was also well represented in the all-time side, with Neale Daniher named coach and Terry Daniher in the starting team.

Hawthorn great and former Footy Show personality Shane Crawford also made the side.

Two-time Sydney Swans premiership-winner Lewis Roberts-Thomson was one player unlucky to be omitted.
