GARRY Lyon’s move to Fox Footy is set to have major ramifications for two popular long-running football programs.

The future make-up of Channel Nine’s ‘Footy Classified’ and Fox Footy’s ‘On The Couch’ will be discussed at length over the summer.

There are many theories buzzing around the industry since the worst-kept secret in football was confirmed that after 23 years Lyon was departing Channel Nine.

Lyon had been the long-time host of ‘Footy Classified’ alongside Craig Hutchison, Caroline Wilson and Matthew Lloyd.

A lot has happened in the space of a couple of weeks for that line-up with Wilson stepping down as chief football writer of The Age and Hutchison increasing his business commitments by taking over radio station SEN.

And now Lyon jumps ship with betting company Sportsbet even bringing out a market on who will be his replacement.

Footy Show journalist Damian Barrett is the $4 favourite from former panellist Wayne Carey at $7 with Chris Judd, who appeared a number of times this year, rated $21 to take on the full-time gig.

Lyon will join a Fox Footy team bursting at the seams with numbers given former St Kilda champion Nick Riewoldt also comes in next year.

Who gets squeezed out is the big question? It’s more likely there will be a reduction in the number of games for some regulars down the pecking order.

There had been rumours late in the season about the future of ‘On The Couch’ before Lyon’s name had been even mentioned.

And also before the show won the Most Outstanding Program at the Australian football Media Awards.

It’s believed an overhaul was being discussed and that seems more likely now given Fox’s investment in Lyon who isn’t coming across just to do games.

Gerard Healy is the sole surviving member of the original ‘On The Couch’ team and this year he led an expanded line-up which included Jonathan Brown, Jason Dunstall and David King.

Does Lyon fit in there? Or is a completely new show introduced for the traditional Monday night slot?
