GARRY Lyon and Paul Roos have taken a seat on footy’s most famous couch.
The pair are Fox Footy’s big-name recruits for a reboot of its flagship analytical program.
They join long-time host Gerard Healy and former Lions champion Jonathon Brown on the Monday night show from March 19.
Jason Dunstall and David King have moved to other prominent roles with the pay TV station.
Roos was part of the program before taking the reins as Melbourne coach in 2014.
“It’s comfortable having done it before, and getting back onto it, which is exciting,” Roos said.
“It made sense to me to go back and do it, because it does give a different perspective when you have someone who has coached a team and then you’ve got a player’s perspective with Browny, Gaz is a mix of a journalist and player, as is Gerard. The mix is a good one.”
Roos — who played 356 AFL games between 1982 and 1998 before turning his hand to coaching — said the perspective he will bring to the show will be different to his last stint.
Then, he was coming off the back of a successful period at Sydney — which included the 2005 premiership — but he now has the experience of guiding Melbourne through a difficult period.
“Probably drawing more on the Melbourne experience ... and still looking at it from a coach’s point of view (is what I’ll be doing),” he said.
“Building a list, the problems that exist with some of the bottom teams like Carlton and Brisbane, and putting myself in those positions.
“The experience that I’ve had at Melbourne is probably going to add to the experience of the show and the things that I can talk about.”
It will also be a reunion of sorts for Roos and Lyon, who faced off on-field during their playing careers.
“We played on each other, and with each other in a bit of state footy and things like that,” Roos said.
Brown said every member of the show “will bring different things to the table”.
“It should be robust discussion and pretty informative,” he said.
“(Lyon) is arguably the premier analyst in the game, so it’s a huge acquisition.
“Roosy’s credentials go without saying. To have an ex-coach ... people are always interested in getting that coaching angle, as well.”
On The Couch begins Monday 19th March at 8.30pm on FOX FOOTY (channel 504) on Foxtel.
