Dermott Brereton’s bizarre look during Shanghai interview sends Twitter into meltdown

AS THE Crows and Dogs slugged it out in the rain, something was desperately needed to liven up proceedings. Enter Dermott Brereton live from Shanghai.

IT WAS a wet, cold night in Adelaide and the footy wasn’t exactly highlight reel stuff (Eddie Betts excepted).

At halftime in last night’s Crows v Bulldogs game the two teams had kicked a combined 4.10 and laid over 100 tackles.

Something was desperately needed to liven up proceedings. Enter Dermott Brereton.

The Fox Footy coverage crossed to the Hawks champ live in Shanghai for an interview with the coaches of Port Adelaide and Gold Coast before their historic clash in China today.

But no one will remember what Ken Hinkley or Stuart Dew said. Because all the attention was on Brereton’s bizarre look.

A grey/silver suit that appeared to be several sizes too big was complemented by a silver tie while Brereton also clearly gave the hotel hairdryer a workout before going on air.

The result was too much for Fox Footy colleagues David King and Brad Johnson, who couldn’t contain their laughter back in the Melbourne studio.

Twitter, meanwhile, went into meltdown, comparing Brereton’s look to Barry Humphries character Sir Les Patterson, flamboyant wrestler Ric Flair, Doc Emmett Brown from Back to the Future, Andy Warhol, a dodgy used car salesman, former London Mayor Boris Johnson and even Donald Trump.

It wasn’t Brereton’s first colourful Shanghai interview. After landing in China he interviewed the two club captains and got more than he bargained for when he asked Travis Boak and Steven May what they thought of each other.

“How do you two get on? You obviously know each other ... tell us what you really think,” Brereton urged the AFL stars.

And it was the Power skipper who was first to pounce.

“Maysy’s a pr--k on the field, there’s no doubt about that,” Boak said.

Luckily all - except perhaps the producers of the show - took the jibe in good humour.

“Boaky’s pretty respectable, but I didn’t know he thought of me like that,” May said.
