Injury-plagued Collingwood stars Jamie Elliott and Darcy Moore have jetted to Germany to see a hamstring specialist in a bid to overcome the persistent soft tissue injuries that derailed their seasons.

The duo will see world-renowned doctor Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt, who has previously treated teammate Ben Reid, Tiger Dylan Grimes, ex-Pie and Saint Nathan Freeman and Geelong premiership player Max Rooke.

Elliott failed to play a game this season after pre-season ankle surgery and then consecutive hamstring problems, while Moore managed just seven matches — three of which he failed to finish after suffering further hamstring injuries.

If both players can get their bodies right next season, they will virtually be new recruits for the beaten Grand Finalists.

“They’re both healthy and fit at the moment but given that this (treatment) has had success with players in the past and given both of these boys have had a history of recurrences, we felt that this was something that we couldn’t ignore,” Collingwood football boss Geoff Walsh said at the club’s member forum on Monday night.

“They left on Saturday and they’ll be back at the end of next weekend and our doctor will have a full report for us, not only on potentially what the issues are but how we treat them and how we manage them going forward.

“Hopefully that’s a bit of a watershed moment for both of those boys because they’ve missed a lot of footy, particularly Jamie.”

Elliott was spotted training at the Holden Centre last week, just over a fortnight before he’s officially required to return for pre-season.

The 26-year-old is backing himself to regain full fitness next year and recapture the goalkicking form that saw him become one of the game’s best small forwards, after signing only a one-year deal at the end of the season.

Moore meanwhile, turned his back on interest from Sydney to sign a two-year deal.

Collingwood’s first-to-fourth-year players started pre-season training on Monday with the full squad to return on December 3.

Captain Scott Pendlebury was an early starter, joining his younger teammates for the session while ACL victim Lynden Dunn ran laps and recruit Jordan Roughead also returned early.
