Collingwood scored the most victories as underdogs of any team in 2019

Don’t underestimate Collingwood and don’t get sucked into over-estimating Melbourne.
Those are the findings from an analysis of 2019 odds by bookmaker TAB, which might help give AFL tipsters an edge as they vie for over $2 million in prizes at tips.com.authis year.
The Magpies scored the most victories of any team as an underdog last season, starting four games as an outsider with TAB and winning three of those.
Those upset wins included the qualifying final triumph over Geelong, with the Magpies getting up by 10 points at the MCG.
On the flip side, Melbourne scored the most losses when favourite last season.
The Demons started favourite eight times in 2019, winning only three of those matches.

The analysis also showed an increasing number of upsets occurring across the AFL.
During the 2019 season, teams that started favourites with TAB won only 137 of 207 matches, equivalent to 66 per cent.
In other words, upsets occurred 34 per cent of the time.
The 70 upsets last season made for 12 more than 2018 and the percentage of upsets was the second-highest in nine years.
The 1999 season holds the record for the highest percentage of upsets since TAB started keeping the stat in 1995, with underdogs winning 73 of 185 matches that season or 39 per cent of the time.
The long-term average for upsets over the past 25 years stands at 30 per cent.
