CAN Collingwood afford wanted Gold Coast co-captain Tom Lynch?

That might be the biggest question surrounding the Pies’ interest in the Suns forward as Herald Sun trade gurus Jon Ralph and Sam Landsberger cast their eye over the big names still in play in 2018.

Lynch remains the biggest name yet to recommit for 2019 as three Melbourne clubs firm in the race for his services. The goalkicker’s future came further into focus this week when Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley revealed he had met with Lynch earlier this season.

“What people have said to me is Collingwood have got a really tight salary cap already, they’ve already invested a lot of money elsewhere,” Jon Ralph said.

“So they’re saying to people ‘we’re really, really tight, we’re really stretched to fit him in’.

“Clearly they’re still interested in him but that’d be an issue for those guys.”

Lynch isn’t the only star whose future beyond 2018 is yet to be sealed, with Ralphy and Sam discussing the latest whispers on Eagles Andrew Gaff and Scott Lycett, Docker Brad Hill, Cat Tim Kelly and some premiership Tigers.

Will Bachar Houli and Shaun Grigg earn another contract at Punt Road or could they be tempted to a rival who can promise a longer deal?

“You’re probably a good chance of getting them,” Sam Landsberger said.

“I think Bachar Houli will definitely be on a list next year.”

But it’s uncertain times at the Western Bulldogs.

The club has extended the deal of hard nut midfielder Toby McLean, but the future of plenty of other Bulldogs isn’t so secure,
