THE guessing games are over with Brian Taylor set to claim the Channel 7 calling vacancy created by the retirement of Dennis Cometti.
While the decision remains hush-hush within the walls of Seven, Taylor, 54, will partner veteran Bruce McAvaney on Channel Seven’s all-important Friday night call with Wayne Carey as the expert comments man.
It will also see Taylor filling Cometti’s vacancy on Sunday afternoons, a timeslot in which he is expected to call with Hamish McLachlan.
BAD BOYS: HIRD, LYON DOUBLE ACT ‘TOO RISKY’ FOR SEN
McLachlan, 41, will remain host of Channel Seven’s popular Sunday morning Game Day program, despite discussing a possible release given his increased workload as a co-host of SEN breakfast with Garry Lyon and Tim Watson.
Taylor’s switch from Saturday nights is expected to be filled by Basil Zempilas, calling alongside Luke Darcy.
The battle to partner McAvaney has been hotly contested, with James Brayshaw said to have thrown his hat into the ring despite his public denials.
The McAvaney-Taylor pairing was trialled and well received during 2016, Taylor noticeably taking a step back as the more junior partner to a legend of the caper.
His new vocation on Friday nights will see Triple M looking for a partner for Luke Darcy, with Brayshaw and Wayne Schwass the most obvious candidates.
