HUTCHY ILL-INFORMED AND WRONG: FAGAN

Brisbane coach Chris Fagan didn’t mince his words on Saturday when he was asked about comments Craig Hutchison had made about the Lions’ coaching set-up.

On a recent episode of Footy Classified, Hutchison had suggested the Lions needed to bring in some tactical help to the club.

Fagan fired back on the weekend, saying the comments were “ill-informed and wrong.”

“Was he suggesting that I’m not very smart tactically or that I don’t have enough people around me who are smart tactically?” Fagan said on 3AW.

“With all due respect, Craig would not have one clue about our coaching group up here at Brisbane and their capacity.

“I would categorically say that his suggestion is ill-informed and wrong.”

‘I COULD SCREW IT UP SOMEHOW’

It was the moment we had all been waiting for.

What happened when Roaming Brian met unique Tiger Jack Higgins?

There were plenty of highlights in the brief chat on Friday night, which included Higgins taking the microphone and interviewing teammate Dan Butler before dropping some serious Fortnight lingo about “tilted towers” and “dusty diverts”.

But the final highlight came when Higgins touched on an upcoming media commitment.

BT: I’m told you’re also a guest on Game Day on Sunday, is that right? It’s your first crack at it.

Higgins: Yeah, I think so. Hopefully I go all right. You never know with me, I could screw it up somehow.

Here is some of Higgins’ work. The air drying admission was certainly an eye-opener.

WHO WON THE BRAYSHAW BATTLE?

There might have been some terse words in the Brayshaw household after Saturday night’s Melbourne v Fremantle clash, which was the first meeting between brothers Andrew and Angus.

Although Angus walked away with the four points, it was Andrew who will hold bragging rights at the next family dinner.

The youngster nailed his big brother with a crunching tackle on the wing, winning a holding the ball free kick for his side.

“I thought I could just give him a little candy and show the young fella how it’s done,” Angus joked after the game.

“But he wrapped me up real good and let me know about it as well.”

WHAT WAS TEX DOING?

The likes of Brian Taylor and Wayne Carey have seen just about everything over their football careers.

But even they had no idea what Adelaide skipper Tex Walker was doing early in the third quarter on Friday night.

With the players having only just emerged from the rooms, Tex got one of the Crows’ trainers to squirt what looked like water all over the back of his legs and on his hamstrings.

However, on Channel 7 on Sunday, former teammate Jake Lever revealed it was “magic water” or liquid Deep Heat to help the key forward warm up on the cold night.

DERMIE HITCHES A RIDE TO TIO STADIUM

He might be a five-time premiership player but at the end of the day, Dermott Brereton is a man of the people.

This was particularly evident on Saturday night, when Dermie hitched a ride to TIO Stadium with the Fremantle cheersquad.

“They gave me a lift to the ground tonight. I was walking out of the hotel and they said, would you like a lift?” he recalled in commentary.

“The lady in the hat there, it was her birthday she was telling me on the way to the ground.”

However, when quizzed about whether he joined in on the singing of the club song on the way to the game, Brereton explained why he gave it a heave-ho.

“I was eating chocolate bars,” he joked.

DO THE HAWKS’ FLAGS HAVE AN ASTERISK?

It was enough to make Hawthorn supporters throw up their dinners.

During AFL Nation’s pre-game show on Friday night, St Kilda great Danny Frawley had an interesting take on one of the most successful sides of the modern era.

Frawley declared Hawthorn’s amazing three-peat of premierships from 2013 to ‘15, should have an asterisk next to them because the draft talent was all going to expansion clubs.

“Hawthorn people will just drive off the road but there’s a little asterisk with their three in a row, because GWS and Gold Coast (were) getting all the young picks,” he said.

“The sides around tenth, eighth, ninth, seventh and fifth couldn’t improve because all the good picks were going to the northern states.

“So Hawthorn had a great opportunity to be on top at that particular stage, they did stay on top a hell of a lot longer than they should have.”

We are eagerly awaiting Hawks president Jeff Kennett’s response.

HELLO, IS ANYONE THERE?

The Tigers like to keep things pretty relaxed in the rooms before a big game.

This was never more evident than Dylan Grimes on Friday, who had some fun with Daniel Rioli just before players were about to hit the MCG.

We aren’t sure who was on the other end of the line, but that didn’t stop Rioli from having a quick chat.

DID JACK DROP 10K?

He’s already a premiership player, Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame member and occasional lead singer for the Killers.

But Jack Riewoldt came oh so close to adding another stunning achievement to his glittering resume on Friday night.

In a moment which had everyone out of their seats, the key forward launched himself miles in the air, almost taking Mark of the Year before ultimately dropping the prize.

And if you think Riewoldt didn’t know exactly what that prize was, think again.

WHERE WAS ROSS GOING?

The warning signs were there nice and early that things could go off the rails for the Dockers in Darwin on Saturday night.

Clearly coach Ross Lyon was unfamiliar with the surroundings up north and prior to the first bounce, actually found himself trying to get into the wrong coaches’ box.

His players also appeared to struggle with direction, losing the inside 50 count 78-28. Now that is what you call a tough night to be a defender.

I TOLD YOU TO TRIM THOSE SIDEBURNS

We’ve seen some interesting haircuts over the journey and North Melbourne’s Cameron Zurhaar’s is among the best of them.

After being recalled to the seniors this week, the club’s social media team pulled out an old favourite to welcome the youngster back in the fold.
