GWS has given former Magpie Lachlan Keeffe the ultimate platform for payback against his former club, recalling him for its preliminary final in place of the suspended Toby Greene.
Keeffe, who played 40 games in four seasons with Collingwood, will feature in his first final this year after playing nine games during the home-and-away season.
But his selection has dumbfounded one AFL legend, with Jason Dunstall questioning where the 204cm swingman will fit into Leon Cameron’s side.
“I cannot fathom the inclusion of Lachie Keeffe,” Dunstall said.
“I don’t understand it, you’ve got Davis, Corr, Taylor and Haynes. Where are you going to play him?”
Giants coach Leon Cameron said he was confident Keeffe would seize his opportunity on the big stage.
“Lachie played in the final last year against Collingwood as well,” Cameron said on AFL360.
“He played down back and did a really, really good job down back that night.
“He comes into the team and no doubt he’s going to be looking forward to that.
“It’s against his old side. He’s played some terrific roles this year, whether that be forward or back.
“There’s no doubt, he’s such a seasoned sort of campaigner … we’re really looking forward to him coming into the side.”
Meanwhile, Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley has pulled a selection surprise, selecting Ben Reid to take on GWS on Saturday.
Reid hasn’t played since injuring his lower leg against North Melbourne in Round 15.
He is one of two changes at the Magpies, with James Aish coming in for Levi Greenwood. Jordan De Goey is the other Magpie to miss.

“Clearly Reidy is more an aerial threat if we go that way,” Buckley said at Collingwood training today.
The Giants have made one change with Ian Hill replacing Lachie Whitfield.
Meanwhile, Lachie Henderson has been named for Geelong, replacing the suspended Tom Hawkins.
