Adelaide has dropped a selection bombshell by axing Eddie Betts for Saturday’s clash against Carlton at the MCG.
Betts, who has played 312 AFL games, has been named to line up in the SANFL for the Crows on Saturday after senior coach Don Pyke lost patience with the veteran following another goalless game against Essendon last week.
The 32-year-old has kicked 32 goals from 17 games this year but has been held goalless in three of his past four matches, the exception being a six-goal game against the struggling Gold Coast Suns in Round 17.

Small forward Tyson Stengle will replace Betts for the clash against the Blues, with the ex-Tiger one of three changes.
Betts broke his silence after his shock axing on Thursday night by posting a photo with Stengle on his Instagram story.
“Yes a bit disappointed on being dropped but at the same time super excited that this kid (Stengle) gets another run at AFL level, turn it on littler brother,” Betts’ caption read.
Pyke confirmed Betts will play in the SANFL as he revealed the reason for his shock omission.
“Unfortunately Eddie has not been able to deliver his usual consistency of performance to which we have become accustomed,” Pyke said last night.
“We know that at his best he brings high energy, high impact and hits the scoreboard in games, and unfortunately and frustratingly we have not seen that regularly this season.
“Eddie will play in the SANFL this weekend with a view to recapture his best form.”
The news will come as music to the ears of Carlton fans, who face the Crows at the MCG.

Betts has averaged 2.5 goals against the Blues since leaving them at the end of 2013 — his second-best record against any club.
Betts is one of three outs for the Crows, with midfielder Hugh Greenwood also dropped.
Former Richmond small forward Tyson Stengle will play against the Blues in place of 312-gamer Betts.
Collingwood has made four changes for its must-win clash against Richmond on Friday night, with Matt Scharenberg to bolster an undersized defence.
The Magpies were exposed for lack of height against GWS last week, with key forwards Jeremy Cameron, Harry Himmelberg and Jeremy Finlayson running riot and the task doesn’t get any easier against Jack Riewoldt and Tom Lynch at the MCG.
Jamie Elliott, Josh Thomas and Josh Daicos will also play against the Tigers.
Nathan Buckley’s growing injury list now also includes James Aish and Brayden Sier who will miss the blockbuster through injury.
Richmond will go into Friday night’s game unchanged, with Damien Hardwick hopeful Trent Cotchin will play despite the impending birth of his third child.
Cotchin’s wife Brooke is due to have the couple’s third child early next week.
“There is always a chance that these things happen but it is what it is … at this stage he (Cotchin) is playing and we’ll work our way through that if something changes,” Richmond coach Damien Hardwick said.
“He’s in the side at this stage, not sure exactly when it (the birth) is going to happen obviously. But we hope he gets through the game like he did last week.”
Toby Nankervis will spend another week in the VFL as he continues his return from injury, while Josh Caddy has missed out on selection,
Ken Hinkley has reacted savagely to his side’s loss to Richmond by dropping Charlie Dixon and Steven Motlop for Saturday night’s must-win game against GWS.
Ruckman Paddy Ryder has earned himself a recall, however.
