THE AFL has given the OK to a controversial goal review decision that saw Kangaroo Billy Hartung awarded a goal that proved crucial to the final result on Saturday night despite Swan Jarrad McVeigh claiming he had touched it.

THE AFL has ticked off a controversial goal review decision in Saturday night’s Sydney-North Melbourne clash that awarded Billy Hartung a goal.

Swan Jarrad McVeigh claimed he had touched Hartung’s kick in the first quarter but a review was not called for by the field or goal umpires. The AFL ticked off the goal on Sunday, declaring there was no error. “There was not enough definitive evidence to overrule and change the decision in time before the restart of play, so the original decision stood,” it said in a statement. The ‘no call’ proved to be critical with the outcome decided by less than a kick. Surprisingly Swans coach John Longmire wasn’t upset by what appeared to be a non review. “Someone told me he touched it, is that right or not,” Longmire said. “What do you want me to say? I guess that’s what the review is for. If he touched it he touched it and that is what the review is for.” North Melbourne coach Brad Scott was convinced the review was made. “They review every goal,” Scott said. “They review every goal before the next centre bounce. I’d be staggered if they didn’t look at it. I was 250 metres away (from the incident) and I didn’t look at the review. I can’t control it so we just move on to the next thing.
