JACK Viney wants to be back playing in a month.

The Melbourne co-captain is suffering a sesamoid injury and was last week listed as a 6-8 week prospect by the Demons. But the star midfielder says he’d love to be back in four weeks. ANALYSIS: ROUND 1 ROOKIE REVIEW THE PHANTOM: TRADE TALK SUPERCOACH INVESTOR: DON’T PANIC ABOUT STARS RECAPALL TODAY’S AFL NEWS AS IT HAPPENS IN THE BLOG BELOW “Last year I hurt my plantar fascia ... and then coming back from that I had a stress fracture in one of the bones of my foot. And then coming back from that, I had a sore ankle which we had to rehab for and now I’ve got a bone problem in my toe - the sesamoid,” Viney said. “It’s been ongoing for six months now and I’m trying to get my body feeling good. I’m confident that this is the last one that I have to get over and I’m probably a month off from playing at this stage.” Viney - speaking at the Healesville greyhound racing club’s Good Friday Appeal event - said the shift at Melbourne had been evident as the club hunts finals for the first time since 2006. He said that in years gone by, last weekend’s loss to Geelong would have been considered honourable. “A couple of years ago...just being competitive was good enough,” he said. “But I think the club has come a long way in the last couple of years where we want to win and that’s the expectation. “We’re very disappointed with how the weekend turned out and obviously had a couple of chances late to seal the game and could have capitalised and we felt like there were certainly areas of our game that need to include for this week. SuperCoach 2018 “Last year we came pretty close to playing finals. A few things let us down and I really feel like we’ve rectified those and practiced those and gotten better over the preseason. I feel like the competition is as even as it’s ever been so I can’t really predict where we’ll end up but I certainly know we’re going to be a very strong and competitive football team this year.”
