COLLINGWOOD forward Mason Cox has been suspended for striking while one of his teammates has been fined for diving. See the incident here.
MASON Cox and Mitch Robinson are facing one-match bans after the opening weekend of the AFL season.
Collingwood big man Cox was cited after a high elbow struck Hawthorn’s Daniel Howe in the head and while the young defender played out the game, match review officer Michael Christian deemed the offence intentional with low impact. If Cox accepts the ban he would miss the Magpies clash against GWS at the MCG. SUPERCOACH: IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO DOMINATE RAGE TRADES: WHO COST YOU IN SUPERCOACH? PODCAST: IS THIS EDDIE’S WORST NIGHTMARE? THE TACKLE: CAN BEVO FIX INSIPID DOGS? It’s a blow for Collingwood, which had set the American to be the focal point in attack that would allow Darcy Moore to settle at centre half-back, but that experiment will have to be postponed. Fellow Magpie Brayden Maynard was also cited and can accept a $1000 fine for staging in the loss to Hawthorn. Maynard follows Essendon’s Josh Green in being fined for diving, the Bomber also docked $1000 for exaggerating contact against Geelong in the JLT Series. A clash between Collingwood’s Travis Varcoe and Hawthorn’s Isaac Smith was assessed but contact was deemed below the force required to constitute a reportable offence. Brisbane’s Robinson was also offered a one-match ban for striking St Kilda’s Seb Ross. Christian assessed the incident as intentional with low impact to the head.
