St Kilda has broken a Ross Lyon exclusive of their own.

Spotting Channel 7 sports reporter Tom Browne outside the club’s base, the Saints social media team took the opportunity to playfully turn the tables on him.

The club’s social media team posted a video of Browne on the phone outside with the post reading: “EXCUSIVE. @TomBrowne7 spotted at RSEA Park for fourth consecutive day, per Saints Media.”

Browne took the cheeky gag in good spirits, describing the post as “gold” and imploring the club to stop delaying the inevitable and announce Lyon as their new coach.

“This is gold… and old!” Browne tweeted with a laughing emoji.

“I’m in the office. Ross will be the the coach, just announce it already. Old news!”

The Saints haven’t had too many wins in the back-half of the year, but their social media deserve a big tick for this piece of content, with the post receiving a strong reception online.

Hutchy reacts as Huddo defects to SEN rival

Anthony Hudson looks set to defect to SEN’s arch rival after sensationally quitting the sports station.

The acclaimed caller had been a mainstay of SEN for almost two decades but is now poised to return to 3AW, where his radio career began.

Hudson was Rex Hunt’s sidekick at 3AW back in 1995 and is likely to take over as the Friday night specialist caller as part of a major shake-up of the station’s football coverage.

There is one possible complication, with Fox Footy keen to introduce its own commentary team on a Friday night next year of which Hudson would feature.

While the new TV rights deal doesn’t kick in until 2025 where Fox will have its own commentators across the board rather than take Channel Seven’s for select games, there is a push to start trialing it from next season.

Hudson’s departure is a huge blow for SEN boss Craig Hutchison, who had built the Friday night AFL Nation football coverage around his pairing with chief caller Gerard Whateley.

He also played a key role in SEN’s cricket coverage.

“There are few that have played a bigger role and contributed as much to SEN as Anthony has, particularly in the early days where his behind the scenes work was critical to SEN’s survival,” Hutchison said.

“Huddo is much loved by our audience and our team, and is undoubtedly one of the great broadcasters of Australian sport, now and over history.

“While we are undoubtedly disappointed to lose Anthony and would have loved for him to remain as part of the SEN family, we are respectful of the challenges around his availability due to TV commitments. He’ll be missed.”

Interestingly, less than an hour after news broke of Hudson’s departure 3AW rushed out a release saying veteran caller Tim Lane was going around again next year.

Lane, who will call matches for 3AW on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, joins AFL great Leigh Matthews, who recently confirmed he would continue with the station in 2023.

Former Channel 7 host Jacqui Felgate is set to take over the 3AW pre-game shows on Friday night and Saturday while Sam McClure will host Sundays.

Earlier this month the station’s Sydney-based management made long-time football boss Craig Moore redundant.
