Marcus Adams requests trade from Western Bulldogs for personal reasons

UPDATE: Western Bulldogs defender Marcus Adams wants to be traded back home to Western Australia due to personal reasons.

WESTERN BULLDOGS defender Marcus Adams wants to be traded back home to Western Australia due to personal reasons.

The gun first-year stopper has asked the club whether it could facilitate a trade to either Fremantle or West Coast.

If a deal is not possible, Adams is happy to stay at the Whitten Oval for 2017.

The Western Bulldogs have told Adams, 23, that a trade is highly unlikely.

He is contracted for next season.

Adams’s manager Jason Dover said the strong-bodied defender was open to a move back home to Western Australia but considered it unlikely.

“There are some personal reasons why Marcus would prefer to get back home now (to Western Australia) if he could but we also understand that that is unlikely,” Dover said today.

“We have had some open conversations with the club over the last couple of months about where Marcus is at personally and suggested if the right opportunity came up, we wouldn’t be opposed to it.

“We certainly didn’t go demanding a trade or else.

“He is a required player and they (Dogs) prefer he sees out his contract next year, which we completely understood, and as a result his focus is on going back and playing with the Bulldogs next year.”

The Dogs may be in a better position to orchestrate a move if young premiership backman Joel Hamling stays at the Kennel and rejects a lucrative offer from Fremantle.

The Dockers are trying to bolster their back line with quality key defenders.

West Coast also knows about Adams’s personal situation and may also need another full back if Eric Mackenzie, as expected, seeks a fresh start elsewhere.

Mackenzie is believed to be on more than $500,000 a season, which has hindered trade talks surrounding his future for next season.

Adams had an outstanding start to his AFL career at the Kennel before he was struck down by serious foot problems this year.

Adams played 11 games this season after being drafted out of the WAFL with pick no.35.

Fremantle remains confident it will land Hamling to bolster its backline next season.

After missing out on a string of prime backmen, including Alex Rance and Cale Hooker, the Dockers believe they are well-placed to secure the 23-year-old stopper after his Grand Final heroics helping shut down Lance Franklin in the Western Bulldogs premiership triumph.

The Dockers have closely tracked Hamling all season after flagging him as a potential recruit much earlier in the year.

Hamling is believed to be torn by the chance to come home to Western Australia and staying with the Bulldogs, who offered the defender a lifeline after he was delisted by Geelong.

He is expected to make a decision as early as today.
