Jesinta Campbell finds her Prince Charming

BROWNLOW Cinderella Jesinta Campbell finally made it to the ball last night with a third-time-lucky date.

BROWNLOW Cinderella Jesinta Campbell finally made it to the ball last night with a third-time-lucky date.

Geordan Newman, son of Footy Show "fossil" Sam, rode in on his white steed after young Hawk Brad Sewell pulled out at the last minute.

Newman said he thought it was a practical joke when he got a phone call at 6am while working on a scaffold asking if he wanted to take Miss Universe Australia to the Brownlow.

"I said 'Has my brother put you up to this?'," he said on the blue carpet.

But the tradesman was happy to rise to the occasion: "I reckon there would be a lot of envious guys out there."

It was a rough ride to the big night for Campbell, who had appealed to Triple M host Eddie McGuire to play matchmaker and find her a date for the night.

Young Demon Tom Scully stepped up to the task but pulled out when it emerged he didn't have a ticket.

Ageing The Footy Show star Sam Newman then offererd his hand, but the teen beauty queen turned him down flat.

Sewell then emerged as a knight in shining armour and he and Campbell went to dinner together on Sunday night before he pulled the pin early on Monday morning.

The official reason for his 11th hour bailout was a bad case of food poisoning after their dinner date in Chinatown. But there are whispers that Sewell is hardly single.

"Maybe his girlfriend put something in the food," failed matchmaker Eddie McGuire joked.

McGuire, who fancied himself as something of a cupid after setting up colleague Mieke Buchan with his good friend Dermott Brereton, admitted his cupid skills might be waning.

"I haven't had much luck lately, what with Mieke and Dermie falling over, perhaps they're all breaking up getting ready for the Melbourne Cup," he said.

Gorgeous brunette Campbell was thrilled with her eventual date. "I have scored, and he's a lovely guy as well."

And after finally getting the chance to choose her own dress, Campbell scored mixed reviews for her emerald green Sylvana Tedesco number.
