Jamarra Ugle-Hagan’s uploads raise concern amid ongoing turmoil

The ongoing saga surrounding a troubled Bulldogs star has taken a fresh turn with his social media activity causing major issues.

Social media concerns over footy star

The saga surrounding Jamarra Ugle-Hagan is showing no signs of slowing down with the Western Bulldogs star under fire once again.

The Dogs celebrated the club’s centenary with a special presentation before Friday night’s thrilling loss to Collingwood at the MCG, but Ugle-Hagan was nowhere to be seen.

Nine’s Tom Morris reported on Sunday night the 22-year-old was having a night out at Melbourne’s Brighton Beach Hotel on the same night as the game.

The incident has caused the divide between the player and the club to reportedly grow with Morris noting the club was not happy with the forward’s social media activity.

“Rift is an interesting word, Damo. Certainly, they remain a long way apart, the Western Bulldogs and Jamarra Ugle-Hagan,” Morris said on Footy Classified.

“And what I can tell you tonight is it revolves almost entirely around social media.

“Now, the Western Bulldogs don’t particularly have a huge issue with Jamarra Ugle-hagan going to the NBL last Wednesday, going to the NRL on Thursday, or even not going to the AFL on Friday.

“These flexible arrangements are in place for trainings, for games and for other parts of Jamarra Ugle-Hagan’s life.

“But their main issue with Jamarra Ugle-hagan is the fact that he’s posting on Instagram at all these events that he’s at, and yet not going to the football.

“He posted at the basketball he posted at the rugby league, and he was even posting at the pub on Friday night instead of being the centenary game.

“Why is he not at the football, you might ask? The reason is because he has a level of anxiety that’s attached to going to a football game with a big crowd and lots of Western Bulldog footballers around.

“The other element here, of course, is when he’s going to be back playing and when he’s going to go to a game again. And the people I speak to today around him, they can’t confirm if he will be at Carlton versus the Western Bulldogs on Friday night, or when he will be playing again.

“And the last element here, which I think is really important, there’s a lot of people around Jamarra Ugle-Hagan that are really trying to help him from the club, from his own personal circles, and there’s a wide held belief now, and there’s a real sense, that Jamarra needs to help himself and it needs to be soon, or his career might peter out and he might be in another club next year.

“But it all revolves tonight around social media, and he’s been advised by those close to him to stop posting, or at least limit his posting, so as not to tell the world that he’s not a professional footballer in the way he once was.”

The 22-year-old’s future at the club remains up in the air with Sydney reportedly “in the box seat” to poach the forward.

One AFL great believes he’s a “100-1” chance to be at the club next year despite his contract running through to the end of 2026.

“I’m not convinced he (Ugle-Hagan) is staying at the Western Bulldogs, and Sydney, for mine, is the club that’s in the box seat. He spends a lot of time up there,” Herald Sun chief football reporter Jay Clark told Fox Footy’s First Crack.

Asked if Ugle-Hagan was a “perfect fit” for the Swans, dual All-Australian Leigh Montagna said: “As a player, he is.

“He’s obviously got some issues off the field. Is that going to fit in with what the Sydney Swans want …?”

Two-time premiership winner David King said: “I think the Swans have a great way of shaping these guys again in their outside-of-football world.

“(Hayden) McLean — seven targets today, no marks. (Joel) Amartey — six for two. (Will) Hayward, he gets too many looks for the target that he is.

“They need a player like Jamarra. Before this list really goes bang, they need to try and secure someone, and I reckon he’s 100-1 to be at the Dogs next year. I’ve said that before.”
