HAWTHORN tagger Daniel Howe appears certain to come under scrutiny of the Match Review Officer after punching Carlton star Patrick Cripps in the jaw.
In the first minute of Carlton’s clash with Hawthorn, Cripps and Howe had a minor scuffle, which ended in Howe hitting the Carlton star in the jaw.
Cripps was on the ground for close to a minute while his teammates remonstrated with Howe, but soon returned to play.
Dual premiership player David King said he believed Howe would have a “concern” with the MRO for the incident.
“I don’t think he meant to punch him in the jaw, but he has. I think he was going for anywhere in the chest, just trying to make a physical statement,” King said on Fox Footy.
“But he’s got a concern now. Patrick Cripps is one tough hombre and he went to ground.
“That’s not something we see often from Patrick Cripps.”
Howe was tagging the Blues star, who has been one of the competition’s finest on-ballers this season.
He has played 14 games this season and has become renowned as Hawthorn’s first-choice tagger, having been regularly used to shut down the opposition’s best midfielder.
