New Hawk Jack Ginnivan says playing under childhood hero Sam Mitchell at Hawthorn is a “dream come true”, adamant there is no “bad blood” between him and former club Collingwood.

Ginnivan moved on only 18 days after that incredible premiership, with his management finding him a new home after believing he was being shopped around by the Pies.

Ginnivan grew up in Castlemaine watching Hawthorn heroes like Mitchell and new teammate Luke Breust, revealing on Thursday he had even copied sharpshooter Breust’s set shot routine.

He toured his new club on Thursday and said having spoken to coach Craig McRae he had no animosity towards his former club.

“I spoke to Fly yesterday on the phone. I gave him a call and we talked through our fond memories and what a crazy two years its been with me and him. There is no bad blood there.”

The Hawks have overhauled their forward line to bring in Mabior Chol, triple premiership star Jack Gunston and Ginnivan.

And Ginnivan said he couldn’t think of a better outcome than finding his way to Waverley to play under Mitchell.

“It’s obviously a dream come true to don the brown and gold finally. Since I was a little kid, I used to barrack for them, so it’s a dream come true for me,” he said.

“Sam is one of my favourite players, growing up watching him and having his number on my back, those are things you dream of as a little kid and for that to happen is so special.

“Luke Breust is one of my idols as well since I was a little kid I always wanted to play like him. I copied his goal style routine and things like that

“It would be good to stand next to him and Mitch Lewis, if he’s not marking he can bring it to ground and I can kicks some goals from crumbs.”

He said the club’s young emerging core and attractive game style were both factors that saw him move to the Hawks.

“I think the young core as well and the excitement the boys play with, they are always fast and moving the footy forward. People like ‘CJ’ (Changkuoth Jiath) and Dyl Moore are so exciting to watch. It’s going to be great to be a part of. (I can contribute as) a clever small forward kicking goals for the team and if not kicking goals putting on pressure and passing a few off.”

He said he still could not believe the last few weeks given he had won a premiership so recently with the Pies.

“It was pretty crazy, only two weeks ago and one of the great achievements with all my mates. It will be a memory I cherish forever, such a special day and great to be part of.”
