WHAT’S a sledge between mates?
In the last quarter of Saturday’s clash between Geelong and Greater Western Sydney, now-Giant Stevie Johnson appeared to offer a bit of advice to his former teammate Joel Selwood who was lining up for goal.
Johnson has revealed that there was plenty of banter throughout his return to Simonds Stadium for the first time since he left at the end of last season, but unfortunately “it didn’t work”.
“You know a few intricate details about those boys,” the ex-Cat said on Channel 9 today.

“It didn’t work last night, but I was just asking Joel when he was having a shot for goal where he wanted to have a beer after the game and I was just reminding (Andrew) Mackie that his shorts were a little bit small.
“The cameras probably isolated it a little bit last night, but that’s just week-to-week. A little bit of banter that goes on on the field.”
Johnson also employed an interesting goal celebration, sweeping his hand across his hair while on the run after booting a major, but had no explanation for where it came from.
“It wasn’t trying to copy (former Brisbane star) Jason Akermanis or anything like that,” he laughed.
“It wasn’t pre-planned, that’s for sure. It’s actually not great.”
He said he was pleased to be welcomed warmly back to Geelong, where he played 253 games and won three premierships.
“Everyone’s welcomed me back — it’s been great. The crowd was great,” he said.
“They’ve always really made me feel like I’m one of them and it was no different last night, even though I was wearing different colours.”
