First pictures released of Melbourne’s planned new headquarters at Caulfield Racecourse

Melbourne has revealed what its proposed Caulfield Racecourse headquarters will look like as the project took a significant step forward. JAY CLARK has details.

Melbourne is one step closer to constructing a new headquarters at Caulfield Racecourse after receiving a major approval on its feasibility study.

The Demons’ plans to build a state of the art training base inside the racetrack has progressed significantly as the club prepares to secure funding for the project.

Melbourne has released images of the potential design including two ovals and an indoor training facility as well as the master plan.

While the project is not yet guaranteed, it would take a considerable and unexpected setback from here for it not to come to fruition.

A timeline is not concrete, but it is possible the new home will be constructed by 2028, helping unite the club’s football department and administration team under one roof.

The club will attempt to secure Government funding as well as diving deep into the club’s own pockets to build the new training base.

The club says the facility has the strong support from the local community and will help transform the area for residents, offering new sporting and community facilities.

It is a welcome boost for the club after a turbulent month dealing with the Christian Petracca fallout, the resignation of president Kate Roffey, and criticism of the club’s culture.

Chief executive Gary Pert, who is currently helping review the football department, has led the Demons’ new facility work.

Melbourne has been trying to secure a site for a new facility for a decade after its attempt to secure land in Yarra Park failed.

Currently the club trains at Gosch’s Paddock and Casey Fields.
