AFL Draft 2022: South Australia’s Top 25 prospects from the SANFL – November edition

Eagles gun Mattaes Phillipou is set to be the first SA player picked in this year’s Draft – but there are plenty more attracting AFL interest. Get the latest on our top 25.

Replay: AFL Mock Draft

The son of a gun looms as South Australia’s best hope of continuing its recent tradition of having at least one player picked in the top 10 of the AFL national draft while a Crows father-son prospect and a ruckman likened to dual All-Australian Brodie Grundy are other headline acts in this year’s draft class.

As the countdown continues to the first round of the 2022 draft on November 28, The Advertiser zeroes in on the SANFL’s top 25 prospects, where there is a handful of top-end talent but probably not as much depth as recent years.

Athletic Woodville-West Torrens midfielder/forward Mattaes Phillipou – likened to Western Bulldogs superstar Marcus Bontempelli – appears to be SA’s best hope of forcing his way into the top 10.

Essendon, which owns pick four (which will be pushed back to pick five after Brisbane moves up the order to select star father-son prospect Will Ashcroft), has interviewed Phillipou three times.

The last time SA did not have a player selected in the top 10 was in 2017 when Adelaide pounced on Glenelg’s Darcy Fogarty at No. 12.

Crows father-son prospect Max Michalanney and West Adelaide ruckman Harry Barnett also are expected to feature prominently in this year’s draft order.

Here’s our top 25.
