ONE of football’s longest running debates has a winner, according to West Coast defender Will Schofield.

On the back of Josh Kennedy rocketing to the top of the Coleman Medal standings thanks to a seven-goal haul against Fremantle on Sunday, Schofield has declared the Eagles the winners of the famous Chris Judd trade.

In one of the most scrutinised trades of all time, Judd turned his back on the Eagles at the end of the 2007 season to return to Victoria.

In exchange for the midfield star, the Blues gave up young key forward Kennedy and draft picks 3 and 20, which became Chris Masten and Tony Notte.

“I think we probably won. I am biased though,” Schofield said on Monday.

“I’ve got two great teammates out of it and a third in Tony Notte. We did pretty well out of that. Carlton got a really good player. Time will tell but I think we are still going pretty strong with those two.”

Since Judd switched clubs, the Eagles have easily enjoyed more team success.

With Kennedy as the focal point up forward and Masten playing a role in the midfield, West Coast made the Grand Final last season, a preliminary final in 2011 and a semi-final in 2012.

The best Carlton was able to muster in the Judd era was semi-final appearances in 2011 and 2013.

Individually, Judd was a star for the Blues, winning the 2010 Brownlow Medal, earning All-Australian honours four times and being named club best-and-fairest three times.

Kennedy is a four-time Eagles leading goalkicker, All-Australian vice-captain and in a matter of weeks could have his second Coleman Medal.
