DENNIS Cometti will call his final AFL game in Saturday’s AFL Grand Final. We take a look at his best, and say thanks to one of a kind in the commentary box.

Centimetre Perfect - A poem dedication to Dennis Cometti

DENNIS Cometti will call his final AFL game in Saturday’s AFL Grand Final.

After joining the Seven Network in 1986, the veteran broadcaster has spent decades entertaining sports fans across multiple sports — but it is in the footy commentary box where he has truly excelled.

His quick wit and dulcet tones, paired with great mate Bruce McAvaney, has ensured his will go down as a voice of his generation.

So we again thought it appropriate to take a look at his best, and say thanks to one of a kind in the commentary box.

DENNIS COMETTI’S BEST LINES:

“He came up behind him like a librarian! he never heard him!”

“He went in optimistically and came out misty optically.”

When Libba Snr emerged from a pack holding an eye.

“Like a cork in the ocean!”

Arguably Dennis’s most famous lines. It was first delivered after West Coast Eagle Peter Wilson booted a memorable snap goal over his shoulder in the 1992 grand final.

“Nasty situation. He’s caught between A Rock and a hard place.”

The line came when a player was caught between former North Meloburne player Anthony Rock and the boundary fence.

“It’s like finding fault with Miss Venezuela.”

Cometti speaking about Adelaide midfielder Rory Sloane.

“Two Carrs, both with the same rego!”

When Josh Carr, wearing jumper No.9 for Port Adelaide, came up against brother Matthew, wearing No.9 for Fremantle.

“Barlow to Bateman. The Hawks are attacking alphabetically ... ”

On Hawthorn players Kris Barlow and Chance Bateman

“Rocca comes to it ... well, Rocca, like my wife driving — needs a fair bit of lane.”

Cometti on Collingwood forward Anthony Rocca’s turning circle.

“Brent (Guerra) hates losing and that extends to his hair.”

On Hawk Brent Guerra, who did advertisements for The Hair Institute.

“There’s a Blair in there.”

Referring to Collingwood’s Jarryd Blair who was caught underneath some opposition players.

“Metropolis, kicking to the city end.”

Speaking about former West Coast and Fremantle player Daniel Metropolis.

AND SOME OF DENNIS’S OTHER GEMS:

“Centimetre perfect.”

“In for the Cats today, David and Steve Johnson. Who better to patch up a line-up than Johnson & Johnson?”

“Ball in dispute, Lamb, now Yze the meat in the sandwich. Really, Lamb should be in the sandwich!”

“Collingwood know they’re in trouble, it’s like being in the bathtub with the Loch Ness monster!”
