Crow wants out: Josh Jenkins expected to confirm grand AFL trade wish

Forward Josh Jenkins wants out of Adelaide, despite risking a huge reported salary in 2020. Now a club has come forward for his signature.

Adelaide forward Josh Jenkins is expected to confirm his desire to be traded on Wednesday morning.

Jenkins, who has two years remaining on his contract at the Crows, is understood to be keen on a move to a Victorian club.

Geelong remains the favourites to lure him, although it’s almost certain Adelaide would need to pay a portion of his salary.

The Crows have made no secret of their desire to re-shape their list, which will likely see Eddie Betts, Hugh Greenwood, Alex Keath and Jenkins depart.

Jenkins signed a five-year deal in July, 2016. He has played 147 games since debuting in 2012.

Jenkins will join Paddy Ryder and manager Paul Connors at the launch of AFL Trade Radio on Wednesday morning at Marvel Stadium.

It’s unlikely the Cats — or any other club — would need to give up a high draft pick for him.

It was reported earlier this month that the Crows would struggle to find a trade partner for Jenkins, because he has two years remaining on his contract, reportedly on rich money that stands as a hurdle to the club’s hopes of regenerating its playing list and salary cap.

Crows list boss Justin Reid said the decision was mutual after ongoing and amicable discussions.

“After recent conversations it became clear that it is in the best interests of both parties that Josh looks to reinvigorate his career at another club,” Reid said.

“We are committed to working closely with Josh and Paul to ensure there is an outcome suitable for both parties.”
