Collingwood’s banner ripped apart by huge gust of Melbourne wind
THINGS fell apart — quite literally — for Collingwood and their cheersquad before the team had even stepped onto the MCG.

Don't miss out on the headlines from AFL. Followed categories will be added to My News.
ATHLETES are superstitious creatures with some only willing to wear the same pair of socks for every game they play.
Let’s hope Collingwood aren’t in that category after a horror start to their Grand Final day and all before they’d even stepped foot onto the MCG.
The Magpies cheersquad is one of the most passionate supporter bases in the entire AFL and throughout the 2018 season they’ve delivered with the banner.
Clever and not so subtle shots at the opposition have been key to banners in the season that was, but on the grandest stage of all … things fell apart.
As the cheersquad began to hoist the banner into the air, the Melbourne weather quickly shifted and a huge gust of wind blew around the ‘G.
The streamers and tape stood no chance as they were quickly ripped clean off of the posts holding them in place.
Fans couldn’t help but point to the fact this could potentially be a bad omen for the Pies as they head into the biggest game of the year.
Hope thatâs an omen #AFLGF #bannerfail

The moment left members of the Collingwood cheersquad distraught, but it didn’t take long for coach Nathan Buckley to find his way over to them and give them all a hug and a high-five.

What an amazing gesture from Nathan Buckley with the banner crew. A moment they will remember forever. #AFLGF

Along with Bucks’ incredible gesture, the Pies were quick to respond with the perfect summation of what they’d just done.
Our banners have surprised everyone all year. Thought we'd save the biggest one 'til last ð #FOREVER pic.twitter.com/LIDqvQW6yq

If the banner omen wasn’t enough to convince Collingwood fans things were off to a bad start they got worse only moments later when the Eagles won the coin toss.
First the banner. Now the toss. Pies supporters will be FREAKING OUT. #AFLGrandfinal

Despite the mishaps the Pies burst out of the blocks and kicked the first three goals of the game … the omen hasn’t struck, yet.
